Hankook RS3

I was wondering if anyone has used the RS3's in an autocross setting. Last season I used the Toyo R1R's and had good results, but wondering if these are better.

yep...

I used them for the 2008 season, running 225/45-15 on 15x7" Kosei Rims.

They were good, but not great.

I used the R1R (same size, same rims) in 2009, again due to width.

The R1R was the best wet tire I've ever run, but in the dry it was only good.

At the moment I intend to stop being so contrary and run the darned Bridgestone RE11 in 2010, at 205.

Good luck with the 'Kook - I do think it's one of the top tires out there.

The RS3 was not available in the US until mid '09.

Probably was the RS2 in '08.

What size tire and what sized rim are you looking for?

Bridgestone RE-11 is first choice
Dunlop Sport Z1 Star Spec

If you have not picked wheels and tire size yet then plan ahead and shop around.

Check what works in your autocross class first.

Ventus RS3 not as good.

In my region for Extreme summer tires run in all Street Touring classes only RE-11 and Dunlop Sport Z1 are used, No ventus RS3.

What about suspension?

For the RE-11
Comes in 205/50-15 and will fit 15x7.5 rims in fact I have put that tire size on 15x8 rims and they worked fine.

Price is about the same and one pound lighter. Since the rim forces the tire to be at least 7.5" wide then it will work but this is about all for 15" for that tire.

For Dunlop Sport Z1
The 195/55-15 is too narrow to use although it can also be mounted on a 7.5" rim.

Not sure if you can run these R compounds in your calss
BF Goodrich g-Force R1 in 225/50-15 $170 each

Or closeout on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup for $125 each in that size

And you probably have enough rim. My problem with the 225s was keeping them flat with the 7" rim under best conditions. -2.5 deg camber wasn't enough.

I'm faster with the 195 Dunlop Z1 using that rim, and too cheap to scrap the wheels and go wider. The R1R was the final and definitive experiment with 225s -- no more.

I do wish Bridgestone made a 215 though - I've a fair bit more weight than the Civics (like 500 lbs) and could use more contact patch. And the 15" rim is definitely the right size for autocross I reckon.

Who has run the Rs3 then? Is the concensus that none of the 225s will beat the Z1 or the RE11? No reason for me to buy proper 15" rims (like 15x8)?

Screw it, I may just go with the 225 in the R1R since I know the work well

Mebbe not?

Try this thread:

Perhaps good in the dry, but not a wise choice for rain...
