Newbie track tire help

Hi Guys,

I have an 06 R53 MCS which I am looking at buying track wheels and tires for.

Im looking at Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 in 17x7 offset et40. Does anyone know if these will work on my car with 215/45/r17 track day tires without any rubbing issues? I have stock suspension and brakes at the moment but they may get upgraded in the future.

These are the tires im considering:

Dunlop DZ03Gs
http://www.mrtyremotorsport.co.uk/product.asp?id=10

Kumho Ecsta V70As
http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.p...2b102s664p9747

Toyo R888
http://www.toyo.co.uk/productdetail....&product_id=18

The toyos dimensions look slightly larger, would this cause much of a problem?

Ideally I would like to run this size due to the greater choice of trackday tires available in this size as opposed to the 205/40r17 size.

Lastly would Avon 17" slicks (205/610 R17)

http://www.avonracing.com/radial_page.aspx

fit without rubbing issues? The dimensions state it has a diameter of 24.5 inches is this too high?

Many thanks for your help

TD are great wheels. If you are new to the track I would not suggest the Avon full slick, that said I only have experience with the R888, cause they do not have those Dunlops or the Kumhos in the US unless the Kumhos are our older V700 tire? And the Dunlop kinda looks like the Yoko A048? I would suggest the Toyo R888 just because they're kinda audible and offer room to learn and grow and more importantly a warning before an off-road excursion. All 205 and 215 should fit. As a matter of fact, I would rather suggest high friction brake pads over R-Comp tires like any of these street tires https://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/tires-wheels-and-brakes/175353-street-tire-shootout-by-sportscar-official-scca-publication.html
Not sure if you have Carbo Tech pads in the UK, but they work for track work, I know you have EBC Yellow pads, and Mintex M1155 or M1166 also some Hi-Temp Brake fluid like ATE Super Blue, give a place like Demon Tweaks a call, but specifically their Motorsport department they'll get you the right goods. Then as move from beginner through expert transition to R-Comps, and Full slicks when you are in advanced group ready to apply for Competition license.

I sugest going with a high grip street tire for your 1st set.

Re11

Ecsta XS

Z1 Star Spec

Advan AD08

Any one of these will give you more break-away feedback, this will help you identify the slip angle charateristics. Audible feedback is much higher on treaded tires than slicks.

I'd agree with Alex....if you're new to the track i'd suggest staying away from slicks and r-comp tires. You'll learn more starting with good street tires.

Cool, thanks for the advice and help guys.

Alex would the RE11s in 215/45/17 have any issues with rubbing with an et 40 17x7 TD wheel?

Also am now considering 16inch wheels (16x6.5 and 16x7, offset either et40/et45) with 225/45/16 tires. Is this a good combination? would there be any potential rubbing issues? I wont be looking at Big brake kits so figured 16s maybe a better choice due to being lighter and cheaper.

thanks again

How about 15's then? Even lighter, even cheaper, arguably a wider selection than 16's, and give a nice gearing advantage. Since going to 15's, I'll never go back.

Depending on your lowering / negative camber, you may rub a bit on rear bumper brackets - this can be corrected with a dremel and a sanding drum.

16 inch if good for street tires for Mini, but lacks the higher end tires you may want to run for your next set.

Agreed, 15's are a great option, and if you use 205/50/15 there is plenty to pick from for high end street tires and race rubber.

I feel the same about the smaller sizes, but they don't look as "low pro" and thet stops some people from them.

Thanks Alex,
I will pray to the Tire Gods that we get them!
All we have for 2nd tier R-Comps really is the Nitto NT-01 and price wise not so 2nd tier Toyo R888 and RA1, I don't consider the uber-expensive Yokos 2nd tier due to mega expensive cost. Gotta be a Cash Money Camillionaire to afford them Baller Status tiyas even 15's in them Yokos
