Fail state inspection with TPMS light illuminated?

For those folks that live in a state that requires a state inspection, will your car fail if your TPMS light is tripped? Responses from folks that live in the state of PA would be most helpful.

Thanks.

I'm in PA and can't speak authoritatively but... I don't think so. I passed inspection with the airbag light illuminated on my BMW so I don't think the TPMS thing would be an issue.

Thanks! Was this at a BMW dealer? I can't see a dealership passing a car with an airbag light on. Maybe you personally knew the mechanic?

It wasn't the dealer but a locally recommended mechanic. I asked him about it when I dropped it off. He said, "It won't be a problem." I left it at that. I don't know if he was simply willing to overlook it or if, indeed, it's not on the list of criteria to check in PA.

I don't think the state (thank goodness) has caught up to ABS, traction control, etc. They check the thickness and operation of the brakes but... not the functionality of the ABS system. I don't think they're prepared to determine what systems are present on every car and whether or not they're working properly.

Remember that ABS and traction control/stability control/etc. are not necessary to operate a vehicle safely. Many cars do not have such systems and the fallback is regular brakes and no dynamic control.

SmokeM:
By the way, way didn't you just re-zero the TPMS?

I can say with 100% certainty in the state of PA that if the TPMS light is illuminated, it will NOT fail inspection. It has NO bearing on the state inspection process.

What they will fail you for is a bubble in your side wall :(.

Flatlander, I had replaced my runflats with a new set of rims and wheels because one of them had a bubble in the side wall. I did not install the TPMS sensor in the new wheels. I switched them back to the "bad" wheel because i thought that they would surely fail me for a lit tpms sensor.

Just passed inspection the other day in NY with TPMS, brake pad sensor, and whatever other idiot light the car could throw at the time.
