Who's running 18's here?
Curious as to who's running 18's here - wheel & tire combo. Since I went from 16's to 17's, I can surmise the possible problems going to 18's. But I want to hear from those running 18's what their thoughts are. I know it's going to be heavier, not really a concern.
Obviously, lower profile tires could cause easier rim damage and flats. I am considering the Breyton Magic Sport Mini with an all season tire.

You got a faint zzzzzip sound from the front at full compression of the suspension, but that was all.
Never appreared to wear the tyre or the wheel arch, and you had to be hammering along like hell over a bumpy road, with passengers, for it to happen at all!
Chris.

>>Going for 235 width gives you more rubber to protect the rim, so that's a bonus...and it fits perfectly under the arches using wheels with the correct MINI off-set.
Hello Cooperb!
I didn't know that you can use the 235/35/18 tires. Everyone told me that the max's that I can go is 215/35/18 and you said about "correct MINI off-set."
What is your wheels off set if I may ask?
Okay guys....you're pushing me close to the edge here. Thanks for the input so far - some nice setups you guys are running. Now, what I was planning on was making the Breytons my year round set-up (I live in NJ) so I was going to put Conti Extreme's on for all season use. Keep in mind last winter I survived (narely) with the Dunlop Performance runflats)
I would really prefer to have one set of wheels - at this point in time. As it is now, I've got the R83's in the garage, and the Pro-Drives on the car....

Good Day,
I am running 215/35/18 on 45 offset. lowered with H-Sport springs - no rubbing. Have already bent all four wheels over railroad tracks - put the 17 S-lites back on and no rubbing - filed up the wheel wells a little better moral of the story I would like to try 235/35/18's next time.......

AC_MINI, love your rims......as a matter of fact, if they weigh less than the stock S-lites with runflats and are at a reasonable price I'll probably go with those wheels right off the bat. Car looks sharp man.
I was running an 18". Just got tired of the harsh ride on the 35 and the pulling feeling while turning during acceleration. Went back to a 215/45/17 and made a big difference IMO. I sold my 18"s to another MINI owner and they love them so I guess its just a personnal preferance thing.
Because the profile number is a percentage of the tire's width, on a narrower wheel, the sidewall height becomes very small. For example, on a Porsche, a 285/30 ZR 18 has a sidewall height of about 85.5 millimeters. On a Mini , with a 215/35 18, the sidewall height is only 75.25mm. If you do the calculations on many tires you'll see that 16 and 17 inch tires and even the wider 18 inchers will rarely have a sidewall height below 85mm.
On my car, I have three bent rims. I have no scrapes. I haven't hit a curb or construction ridge. The wheels have bent on railroad tracks and potholes. This is not a bad wheel. I have seen customers have this experience with the best wheels if they go below that sidewall height of 85mm. There is just not enough distance between the wheel rim and the ground. On older tires (70 series) this number exceeded 125! And we thought that was sporty!
I love the 'dipped in rubber'-look, but in the real world, it means bent wheels. Take it from someone who knows.

Thanks for the warning on the bent wheels. Stupid question, but how hard is it to repair a bent wheel? And how pricey? I really love the looks of this wheel, but I do have concerns with some of the road conditions in the NJ / NY area, especially in winter driving. Ideally, the MINI OE R90 in a 17 would be a nice substitute then.
Hey rb905678
I see that you wanted to try the 235/35/18's next time.............. Well me too but I have a question with an 42 offset fit the 235/40/18's or 235/35/18's Please let me know.
