Whining Noise at 51 mph.
Bought a used 2002 Cooper last fall. It had only 47K miles and the tires are in great shape. They are not original and they say Wanli and look to be run flat performance tires. When I get to 51 mph, they produce a loud, whining noise. I don't get it if I am slightly above or below that speed. Any guesses as to what is causing this? Any suggestions on how to fix it? I'd like to get new, non-run flat tires but I hate to replace these because there is a lot of tread left. Five star 16" rims. Thanks all.
Interesting that you say this. I have a new little crack in my windshield. It's in the lower part by the passenger so I wasn't going to replace the windshield unless it got worse. But if it is the cause of the howl, I will do it now. Do you think I could test the theory by putting tape over both sides of the crack?
