18" Runflat Suggestions

I've been weighing runflats vs non and it come down to my wife drives the car from time to time and I don't want her stuck.

The other piece is that I looking at upgrading to some 18" rims cause I like the look

Sooooo brother and sister mini maniacs.........

Looking for suggestions on a all season performance 18" runflat. I live in St. Louis so summer grade tires ain't gonna cut it and I don't want to screw with winter tires. From what I am hearing from Alex at tire rack I should be looking at 205/40/18

I'm currently running 205/45/17 Contipro Contact SSR's. I'd consider them agin but they do not come in 18 sizes.

Suggestions? Experience? Alternative 18 sizes?

Thanks!

Here are the proper tire sizes without changing tire diameter:

205/45/17
215/40/17
205/40/18
215/35/18

Runflats are always a harsh ride and not particularly performance oriented. Invest in a AAA card and let the tow operator handle the flats. (A can of Fix-a-Flat and a cheap mini compressor can serve the same purpose).

If I was the only driver I'd do the non RF's in a hearbeat.

I realize I'm giving up some performance (arrggghh) however the thought that if the wife gets a flat she can putz it to a safe place is assuring

And yes the thought of paying more for a lower performance tire is annoying to put it mildly......

thanks for the sizes lhoboy!

It's pretty simple.

ContiProContact SSR in 205/45-17 runflats is your best choice for All Season runflats for the MINI given your situation (unless you want to consider 16" which I don't think you are considering given your question regards 18" wheel/tire options)

For the MINI there is NO All Season Runflat tire for 18" sizes. Runflats are very limited in selection and sizes. For 205/40-18 there are only Summer Runflats which won't work for you.

So you can-
1. Keep the ContiProContact SSR in 205/45-17 but pick a different aftermarket wheel maybe 17x7 to 17x8 for a different look than stock. This allows for Grand Touring All Season tires.

2. Move to 18x7 wheels but use Summer Runflat tires and have to change to your stock 17" wheels with snow tires in the winter months. This way you have 18" wheels for part of the year and they are runflats for safety.

3. Move to non runflat 18" All Season tires (215/35-18) and have a plan in case of a flat. AAA and cell phone or fix a flat can for quick repair. Depends how far you drive and how remote or dangerous the roads are. The ride quality of 18" non runflats would be similar to your current 17" runflats.
