Maximum or compatible tire and wheel sizes

Does Alex or anyone else have a table or source showing the maximum advisable or compatible wheel and tire sizes? I was thinking of going to a lightweight 17x7.5 wheel for summer with 225/40-17 sized tires. Any thoughts or recommendations are welcome.
