I ran in GS Street tire class this year on stock 17 in rims and Kumho MX tires. I did quite well but I want to upgrade for next year and stay in street tire because there is more competition. I am looking at the Falken tires and AK Tire rims because they seem to be the hot items. Are you planning on carrying these in the near future?

If I may, go with the SSR Comp Rs which are lighter by 4 pounds per wheel, which will save some weight if you want to go with the Azenis. For the money the Azenis are great tires, but to reduce unsprung weight even further go with BF Goodrich TA KDs in 225 50 with wheel spacers (5mm is legal) or Yoko ES 100s.

 

I would have to concur with FWD MX5. I dont plan to handle either formensioned. Shave an S-03 to 6/32nds if you want a comperable street tire!

Check your budget....

If you liked the Kumho's get a set of lightweight 17's. Almost anything is better than the 24# S lights. :smile:

If you are thinking about switching to R-compounds in the future (nobody makes the optimum 17 race tire for the MINI), or just like the 16's, you have two paths.

Cheap and moderately light - AK Monzas with Falkens
Light and Expensive - SSR Comps with shaved S-03's or KD

Monza's are about half the price of the SSR's

You make the decision.
