Brake wear

Is it normal for the brake pads on a 07 MCS to wear in a wedge shape? I've never had a car do this? Anyone else run into this? Notice the pad is slimmer in front. These are the OEM pads and the MINI has 12,000 miles of easy city driving.

I would not say 'normal' but I have seen it on other cars. In those cases I just replaced the pads and did not see it happen again (only talking about two cases).

Then again I have only done 4 sets on MINI's but none had a pie shape. Two did have irregular wear, one pad worn more than the other on the same rotor.

I am not much help but I would not worry.

not sure if this is what you are trying to describe but here's a picture of a virtually new front pad off my 07 S (replaced 'em early)

you'll note that the leading and training edges are beveled as the come out of the box...

I think what he's asking about is the out edge wearing before the inside edge.

And the OP may need to replace the brake pads quite soon, otherwise it looks quite normal.

The outer radius of the rotor will run hotter and may be breaking down the compound faster.
