Spares, donuts, compressors and sealant reviews

Please post what you carry and your experience with them. I am ditching my runflats and have to decide what to get.

I have an '04 MCS, so no room under the floor for a spare. Bought an OE donut, which fits upright behind the passenger seat. I also carry a MINI branded compressor and fix-a-flat. Finally, I also carry a plug kit. I have used (successfully) the plug kit, but have never tried to use the fix-a-flat (aka slime.) If relying on the plug kit, be sure to also keep a set of pliers in the car so as to be able to remove the offending nail, screw, etc.

No run-flats, no spare, just some plugs, slime and a compressor.

I recommend a patch kit with t-handle tools and any Interdynamics brand air compressor.

The extra $$ for the better compressor is still less than the price of two cheap compressors. Profit from my experience and don't waste a cent on any compressor from sears/autozone/pep boys/etc. because they all have the same motors that sound so labored when running... until they eventually burn out. My Interdynamics compressor never sounds strained and it's been truckin' for quite a long time now.

I recently ditched the run flats this past summer... I bought this kit and thankfully haven't had to use it yet.

How do tire plugs work? Do you just put them in place where there's a puncture?

I've used the slime/compressor kit on my 04 MCS for a flat and have been satisfied with its effectiveness. At $20 for the kit, it's a far less expensive alternative than the other "mobility kits". I also keep a plug kit in the car as well, and have plugged tires successfully over the years.

I bought that one yesterday and it doesn't fit in my compartment like that. Maybe the Gen2s have a bigger compartment? Anyway, the 15min version of their kit, i.e. the one pictured, was only $15 at O'Reilly's.

I have a Conti Comfort Kit from Tire Rack and also carry a plug kit. I have a Honda donut spare I got from a junk yard that I carry on extended trips.
Ive had my non R/Fs for over a year with 24K on them and getting reahy to get new tires soon. Never had a problem with a flat.

Have you tried the tire to be sure it fits? Do you know what year and model?

I ditched the runfats a long time ago. I have had AAA from day one. I also carry a Conti Comfort kit, which I tried out once under crappy conditions (a new tire turned out to be defective and neither the little Conti 12V compressor, nor the AAA driver could get it to reinflate!!) So, I am not sure how reliable the Comfort Kit really is. My next mod is rear seat delete, TSW jack points, and I plan to add a full size spare with a good jack (location yet to be determined) that I can take on long road trips to the hinterlands and remove (the jack) for daily commute and driving around town, where I can pretty much depend on fast AAA service.
