Konig Feathers, opinions?
Just a royal screw-up by Alta on my 17" Konig Feather Purchase. Very ticked off by poor customer service here. I just wrote Adam at Alta:
Adam:
I recently ordered 4 17" Konig Feathers in Silver. Delivery was prompt and they sat the the garage for a few weeks as I was traveling on business. I was going to have them installed this morning. (Invoice #00147860. Copy attached)
Upon opening the boxes, there were no wheel rings and just 1 of 4 caps. To further the problem, I previously called 2X to ensure that the holes were drilled for 14mm lugs. I was assured that 'all' the wheels were now 14mm on one call and the other that 'of course' they were taking care of it as it was stipulated on my order. You'll notice the invoice clearly states 14mm
I called Alta this morning from the installers and Chris laid off the hole error on Konig. This problem has been ongoing for MONTHS as I knew of it from my NAM membership. Why hasn't it been corrected?
As I write this, Chris just called about the wheel rings and 14mm issue. There ARE no wheel rings at Konig and he's telling me weeks for potential delivery. The 14mm issue is now moot as I'm returning the wheels to you.
I would appreciate a prompt credit to my card. Very disappointed in Alta's service on this sale.

I sincerely apologize on behalf of ALTA about your wheel issue. Konig understands EVERY wheel we purchase from them MUST have 14mm holes drilled. We were opening every single box for quite some time and checking them for fitment. We thought we saw the last of these....Unfortunately this is not the case. I HATE that it sounds like we are passing the blame.....and knowing Konig's history of shipping us wheels missing caps/rings in the past we should/are checking EVERY SINGLE BOX to ensure 100% complete packages. As soon as your wheels hit our door, your monies will be refunded. Again I apologize and if there is anything we can do please let me know.
I had the same issue with Alta several months ago. Two of the four feathers I ordered from them were 12mm instead of 14mm. They almost called me a liar by saying they were inspected and could not possibly be 12mm. Their solution was to loan me a drill bit and have at it. Ultimately for my peace of mind, I had the wheels drilled out by a wheel repair company. Alta credited me twenty dollars that it would have cost to ship the drill bit back and forth. It cost $70 to have the two wheels done to the specs they should have been delivered to me. Very unsatisfactory customer service. Unfortunately I have since bought from them again for things nobody else has.
First, no one addressed any voided warranty from Konig on my drilling out the holes. Second, the 'lay-off' of any responsibility to Konig was bad form. Stand behind what you do in business. Alta should learn something from this, but I doubt it based on previous episodes recorded here.
Adam admits they SHOULD have inspected each box for 14mm solutions before shipping. They knew of the problem and it was a problem posted at NAM since April. It should have been CORRECTED, not woulda, coulda, shoulda emails. AND I called 2X to ensure that they were aware of what I needed and could comply. But still no wheel rings or caps?
Not my company so I really can't do more. But they've lost my business and they know why.
To patronize them only encourages bad behavior. Just my two cents. AND, I'm shopping for wheels for the JCW.

Eirerogue, There will be no voided warranty from Konig. You are simply drilling the holes 2mm to fit larger bolts. It is an extremely easy process and I am surprised (cactusflier) someone would charge 70 bucks to clearance eight holes. I completely understand that Eirerogue is very upset but I feel there is nothing we can do to make you feel better other than returning your money, and that is exactly what we will do once we get the wheels back. I know we lost future business from you and thats a bummer. At the end of the day WE are responsible for what we sell to our clients. Trust me we are NOT in the business to make people upset or to cause negative feelings. When we have clients that call in with issues we try everything we can to take care of the situation. There are/were several avenues we could have taken to rectify this specific issue but the purchaser wanted to return them..period... Yes, we do learn things from these types of issues, one of which is we are seriously rethinking our wheel line. If anyone wants a great deal on the Konig wheels we have left please PM me. We are currently looking to get hubcentric rings from another source.
Jarid: First, 'just' drilling the wheels is not the point. I didn't PAY to drill the wheels. ALTA said I'd receive a quality product; I PAID for a quality product and ALTA failed to deliver. Failed to deliver when you KNEW of the problem and KNEW your company should be inspecting these boxes for QC BEFORE they left ALTA.
If ALTA had 'several options' that they could have presented, I didn't hear one other than drill them out myself and oh, the wheel rings wouldn't be available for weeks.

Very tastefully done. I love the painted arch's and the drop. I also think you made an excellent choice on your suspension upgrades.
Great job, Steve

Hi All,
I see that people are running different size tires with the 17" feathers. Alta has a few different sizes. Some are running 215/45/17 while Alta suggests for a "sporty fit" to get 215/40-17.
Why are people going for the slightly taller sidewall with the 45's? Personally, I'd like to get a size that either retains the stock accuracy of the Speedo or better yet makes it more accurate.
It that why people are getting the 45's? To better dial in their Speedos?
