Summer Tires for 2008 (R56) MCS w/ 16" standard bridge spoke wheels? Help?

I ordered a 2008 MCS w/ 16" bridge spoke wheels, limited slip and 6-speed. It should arrive by mid-May.

From what I've read, the tires are 195 / 55 / 16. This seems to somewhat limit my choices in non-run flat tires. Eventually, I think that I'll get an upgraded rear sway bar but right now I just want to focus on a good set of performance tires that are reasonably priced.

My application is for spirited road driving, not track at all. I want really good dry performance and good wet performance (I'm in NJ - we get plenty of rain). I'd like to keep my costs reasonable - say 75-100 per tire, unless it really makes sense (and I mean a LOT of sense) to spend a bit more. I can't see spending $150-200 per tire to start with - perhaps down the road.

How flexible can I be on size? I'm guessing that I could probably use 205s, right? If so, then does the 2nd number still need to be 55?

Thank you VERY MUCH in advance for your assistance!

Jeff

205/50 is the closest match, but 205/55 is 'close enough' and gives you more choices at lower cost, at least based on the search I have done in an effort to replace my 195/55-16 runflats.

I just put a set of 205/50-16's on the 16" Xlites. I got the General Exclaim UHP's. They look a little more sporty than the 195/55's, but still have plenty of sidewall for the Jersey potholes. Haven't hit a good snowstorm in them yet, although the reviews were very good on Tire Rack. (my mini owners, specifically) They were ~ $70/tire plus shipping from Tire Rack. Its been a couple weeks, and so far so good! Very firm on corners. My local tire guy in Morristown charge $26.50/tire to mount em.
