I'm curious to know what mileage you all are seeing from your tires. I purchased my car used with Parada Spec 2's and I drove those for about 11k miles. I then replaced those with Falken Zeix 512 and I put around 14-15k on these, but now they're bald. Just purchased a set of Falken Zeix 912 which I have to go pick up today at Edge Racing. My parents say that I wear out my tires way too quickly but I'm not so sure I do. I drive about 30 miles on the highway daily, the commute home (15miles, highway) is usually stop and go cause of traffic. The rest is city driving with a lot of stop and go.

Please chime in as I'm very curious to see what mileage others are getting.

Hoosier A6 225/45-15
autocross competition only
11 events 44 runs
30 seconds each run
22 minutes at about 44 mph max
about 15 miles of actual competition
otherwise just driving around getting to and from the pit area

Heat cycles show after about 6 events. My best result was in event 7 then in the last three events I could not place anywhere near the top. Dropped off about 6 to 9 places on raw overall times.

Street tires-
Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position
215/45-17 had them for four years using them on and off rotating with stock 15" wheels and tires. Still working well but one tire has worn down to near the wear bar. 43,000 miles on my MCS. Before that had Yokohama AVS ES100 and wore those out in a little over one year 14,000 miles but was used on the track and at autocross.

I got about 10k on Yoko AVS100. Same on Parada Spec 2. On both cars and second set of Spec 2's now. Yeah, they wear somewhat quick, but that is a trade off on performance tires. You want them to last longer, get a 460 tread wear tire from Pep Boys. Just don't expect them to handle.

I have about 15k on my Ziex 512s, and they're nowhere near worn out, but at least 6k of that was cross-country highway miles, and about half of the rest is highway miles as well, based on my daily commute. I *am* getting some cupping on the inner edges of the rears, but that's the result of my camber settings (too lazy to change camber before and after autocross events).

I've tried Yokes,Dunlops, and Bridgstones and it usually ends up being a set a year including a rotation. approx 10K... Now that my 17 year old is driving it may be 2 a year including a new clutch and flywheel ....Hopefully a BMW Hi-performance driving school I have him enrolled in will help.....

On that note, I'm really thinking of replacing the Pirelli's on the BBS's I bought from you, I'm not sure how many miles one can expect from the P-Zeros but I've really been enjoying the added grip, cornering ability, and big jump in HP I've had in the last few months. Any idea what the stock tread depth on them was? I'll take current measurements and then we can see how much tire life they really have.

So I'm right at average. I'm going to be rotating the 912's every 3k and see if it helps any.

Also, what is the point of 'shaving' tires?

Tires can be shaved for use on the track which allows better dry handling and grip with better wear (much less risk of chunking treads when using new tires at 10/32nd" tread depth).

4/32nd" is pretty good for track use in dry, 6/32nd" better for wet track.
Take an Extreme or Max Performance Summer tire and shave them down when new (tirerack offers the service for additional cost).

Full depth tread on new tires taken to the track isn't a good idea. Your tires will be unhappy when the surface tread starts to heat up quickly and the lower tread is still cold/cool.

New R compound tires these days tend to do well with no shaving needed, heat cycling would be helpful and can extend the life of the tire without tread wearing down. Always check with the tire vendor as for the need of shaving for any performance tire application.

Obviously shaving tread off the tire will shorten it's ability to handle regular street wear and shaving for dry conditions is not optimal for wet weather since hydroplaning is reduced with deeper tread grooves.

I got 32k out of my Pirelli run flats on my First Mini. Got about 25k out of a set of Falken 512s after that. I'm at about 10,000 on a set of Yokohama S-Drives now and they look great. I did notice my tires wear a little faster on the JCW than the first S I had...Must be the weight of the car

i finally wore out my first set of KDW2's at 21k miles. this is with 2.5* front camber. the tread looked great except at the extreme inside edge.....while wearing out one set of street tires, i went through one set of RA-1's and two sets of R6's. tell your parents to relax until you start tracking your car.

I have 24,000 on my runflat Dunlops, they just hit the wear bar. I dont know if 24,000 is good or not, but Im just happy to get rid of the things. I drive somewhat spirited, but I drive mostly highway so that helps.

Haha I'll be sure to point my parents to this thread. I hope to be able to get on the track next school year.

hm...
BS RE750: about 12,000 miles

Kumho ECSTA SPT: 12,000 miles before one blew up on me, but will probably last to 20,000 if i drive carefully

Falken Azenis: so far, about 9300 miles, probably another 700-2000 miles at most

Hankook Z214 slicks: brought almost new, used for about 20 lapping days before cording them, so about 2000 km

Kumho V710: brought new, lasted about 10 autocross and 5 track days... probably about 700 km if that

I am at 15K on the Dunlop OEM RunFlats. Can't wait to wear 'em out and get some decent non RFs. Anyone having pitting on the crown spoke wheels? I've tried to get my dealer to do something but I leave messages and get no calls returned. Must be real cheap wheels for original equipment.
