Removing powder coat from S lites

I have the set of S lites that came on my MCS. I also am picking up another set of S Lites. I plan on using one set for Summer the other for Winter.

My current set has a few scuffs around the bead from previous owner abuse. The set I am picking up is powdercoated a bright color.

I would like to get the powder coat removed from the second set, then re-powdered coated to the stock silver color. How much of a pain is it for a powdercoater to remove the previous color and redo with the new color? Will the rim hold up? Should I just rattle can them?

The second set may turn out to be in better shape than my current set. If I can get the color right I would use those as my summer rims and retire my current scuffed set to winter.

Thoughts? any powdercoat advice?

Thanks,

Powdercoating is pretty tough stuff. You'll need a caustic stripper to remove it.

I probably won't try this myself. Will a professional be able to get all the color off? Then cover it again...all without damaging the integrity of the rim? If not maybe I'll just rattle can some big swirls on them (kidding).

Thanks.

There are 2 ways to remove powdercoat caustic dips and mechanical removal (aka media-blast or "bead" blast). Most powder-coat houses can media-blast to clean an object...
