Hey all, was wondering, what's the general consensus about this wheel around here? Good quality?

and does anyone have a picture of them on a mini? pref in black?

Thanks!

I just ordered a set today as a matter of fact! Black for my PW MCS. I'll have them on by Friday. I recently did some searching and on Page 53 in the "Show me your wheels" thread in the Tire and wheel forum there's a (Bad) pic on a PW...

Konigs are generally medium quality. They're better than some of the cheap knock-off brands that you find on ebay....but they're not up to par with some of the good quality wheel companies. They're a good wheel for the price

The Konig feathers are a nice looking wheel and seem to be pretty popular recently

i got them for 140 a piece through americas tire company, aka, discount tires. They seem good enough quality and they are decently light. Check my gallery for pix. i just need to drop the MINI because right now the fender gap is killing it.

If you plan on buying Feathers, check out Good-win-racing. He has very good wheel prices. 17s are $129 and 16s are $100 (ea)

high quality wheels ,what are they?

I haven't figured out the difference in so called high quality and low quality ,knock off wheels. Do the cheap wheels wobble or they not round? Fit badly?Turn into goo after a while?Forged wheels are stronger so what does that mean? A few pounds lighter? Will they deflect less around a curve and therefore handle better? Will they not bend in a pothole? Will the finish look better?

The finish is the part that will stand out the most. Visually the finishes are much more appealing on higher quality wheels. The finish will also last much longer. PGT pointed out that when he went to sand the paint off his enkei wheels (comparable to konigs), the paint was very thin and came off with ease. This is the same thing I've experience on the cheaper wheels that I used to run...the clearcoat would flake or the paint would chip. I had a set of Fliks (medium quality like konigs) and because rocks had chipped the weak clearcoat, water and dirt was getting under the clearcoat and causing all sorts of trouble.

In general, they will be much less likely to bend in a pothole as well. I've seen pictures of Rota's that have literally shattered upon hitting a pothole.

No, lower quality wheels won't turn into goo after a while, and they will probably handle fine out on the road....but I like to compare it to choosing a car. Buying cheap wheels is like buying a Kia....it's a nice low price, they take a lot of styling cues from higher end cars, and it still gets you from Point A to Point B.......... but the interior looks a bit cheap, the performance and driving experience is lack luster, and it may not fare as well in a crash.

All this talk about wheel quality makes me want to ask a question. I picked Motegi Tracklites for my mini.. I'm wondering where these wheels fall in the quality spectrum? Konigs and Team Dynamics were on my short list before I picked Motegi..

Motegi's are generally on the same level as Konigs....though I've heard from some people that the Traklites are better than most Motegis. I've never seen the Traklites in person so I dont know.

Tracklite series are cold forged. I dont think most Konig's are forged - I could be wrong.

like Traklites, the NT03+M I have from Enkei are actually better than their cheap stuff....MAT construction. Enkei OEM's for Subaru - the wheels on '06+ WRX's are MAT as are the one's on the '07 STI Limited (MAT Enkei wheels instead of the normal forged BBS). Enkei can do OEM finishes...they just don't do it on any wheel that I've seen aftermarket (quite a few so far from them).

Feathers installed today....Awesome. Dropped 8.5 lbs per corner in unsprung weight. Enough that it is immediately noticeable in acceleration and suspension action. Wrapped them in Nitto NeoGens 215x45 17's. They feel good so far!

Don't forget your hubrings...73 x 56mm

Those wheels look great on the PW. I was considering the same ones for my CR/white roof. I'm just not sure about black wheel and the white top. I have white ones now and they look good but are a bit happy looking. I was thinking about playing down the cute look more in favor of a more aggressive touch . What you think?

Hey Modshack, so you have been running this wheel for 2 months now. What is the current state? Any chipping or signs of peeling finish? I am considering this wheel or the Motegi FF7s in black with polished lip, but I really like the satin finish of this wheel. Any feedback is gold. Thanks!

Still perfect and looking just like the day I put them on there! No issues at all...Go for it!

Thank you for the quick response. Good to hear that they seem to be holding up well. I order on Saturday.

Do my eyes decieve me, or did you drop the car a bit? Might just be the angle of the shot. Very nice!

Hi All,

One question. Could I just buy the konig rims and use my original 17" wheels?

Thanks,

^^ im assuming you mean tires... If you go with the 17X7 feathers than yes. they also are compatible with the direct TPMS. I cant wait to ditch the runflats but i cant justify buying new tires until they wear down... its not taking too long.
