Runflat Tire Blues

I have recently noticed that my rear passenger tire is no longer holding air and it looks like it needs replacing. Can I put a non run-flat tire on it and if so what are some tires you guys would recommend? And will a non run-flat effect performance? Right now it has a Pirelli 205/45r17 84v

Did you check it for a nail? That's the first thing I would do. It just may need a repair.

and if its not a nail, valve stems are also problem areas...

I would not mix tire types or brands... also depends on wear as well.
(I am currently running non-runflats)

will a non run-flat effect performance?
In my experience a non-RF will effect performance -- but for the better.
However, you do not want to replace one tire. At the very least, you want both fronts to match and both rears to also match -- and preferably all your tires to match. So, as suggested, look to see if it's repairable first.

The only real difference between a regular tire, and runflats, are the sidewalls. Runflat sidewalls are incredibly stiff, to allow them to be used for awhile, when you lose air pressure.

If the damage is to the sidewall, then it shouldn't be repaired no matter what kind of tire you have.

You can get tire repair kits at the better auto parts stores. You might be able to do it yourself.

If you just have a nail or a bad valve stem, I haven't found a tire shop yet that won't fix that. Keep looking.

Never mix tread patterns by using different tires on your car. Your handling will go away.

when I still had my Runcraps on (Dunlop 9000s) I took a nail and Discount Tire repaired it OK (I purchased the warranties the first day I had my car). However, there are certain brands' runcraps that they wouldnt (or couldnt) fix for whatever reason.

Run flats require a much more expensive tire machine. Keep calling around until you find a shop with the correct machine and they can probably repair it for you.

The word I got from a Discount Tire guy is that some manufacturers prohibit it, others don't. I got two Dunlop runflats plugged there.

I've heard many sing the praises of Dynaplug for DIY plugging, but I haven't tried it myself.

Many times the ability to repair a runflat has to due with how it was damaged, and if it was run without airpressure. No pressure will wear the tire beyond repairing.

Me too

I also have the right rear tire leaking as well. I took it to the Goodyear shop and they said it was not repairable and that I had to purchase a new tire at $400.00.

OUCH

Well, I went to eBay and found a used tire, exact size and brand with 90% life left for less than $100.00 but Goodyear said they wont install used tires.

What is up with that? Now I am looking for a shop to install the tire.

<total newbie>
I have an 06 MCS with 17" Sport Package rims. I can replace all 4 tires with non-run flats? If I do this will Mini Roadside assistance still help me with a flat? ie (pick me up and drive me and the tire to a tire shop?)
