OK...so I have seen the wheels that I really want to get for my car. But there's a problem.
TJ showed them to me before and I love them...they would be PERFECT for my MINI. I was just looking online for wheels again and I came across them, but had forgotten that they were the ones he had showed me. I got so excited because I knew they would be perfect. Problem is...then I came across a thread on another board that he had posted someplace else and they are the same ones he really wants to get.

They are my favorite ones I have seen so far and they would go perfectly with the color scheme that I am trying to pull off.....but what do I do? They would look SO GREAT ON MY CAR, but they are the ones he wants to get, too. I am so torn.

Here is a pic of them.......

L.Mini - how many lugs is the Focus? Would you guys be getting different tires? Are you going to keep the stock rims for winter use? I know tires really can change the look of the wheel - the profile on the Kumho's is very different from the Yokohamas or Bridgestones, that could be a saving factor. What does TJ think about the matching wheel scenario?

He would be mad if I got them.
But they are my favorite ones! I mean...it's not like he has a MINI also. The wheels will look totally different on each of our cars. And he's getting 18s and I am getting 17s. Yes I am keeping my stock 16s for winter.

As far as I know, those wheels come in both of our bolt patterns. And yes more than likely we would be getting different tires.

The Focus is also 4 lugs...so that looks close, but if he's going to 18's, he'll be getting a wider tire, I imagine. Is his car lowered? Your's isn't, correct? That will also affect the look. I don't know what I would say if my wife got the same wheels as I had - I know it's not going to happen, but it's not like we have matching cars and drive together to the same places in separate cars. He did see them first, but your cars will probably look very different when all is said and done.

His is lowered....mine is not. Not yet anyway.

I know he saw them first, but if he got them and I wouldn't be allowed to, I would be so jealous. I haven't found anything that I liked so much as those.

i say you keep looking cause thats kind of a dumb thing to fight over, its not worth it. there are so many wheels out there, if you keep looking you might find ones better than those.

Have you seen the Konig's in person? I was really looking at the Appeal a few months ago...but couldn't decide. The finishes vary a bit from web pics - but I do like the lip on the wheels you picked. TJ's car is silver also, right?

Marriage is about compromise...I know if my wife really wanted something (within reason), I'd let her get it. The I would drive down to Helix in Philly and have Eric do something to my car

I talked to him. We are both going to keep looking. The thing is...I've had my car for almost a year and have been looking the whole time and these are the first ones that I have seen that I really want to put money into. We are both going to keep our options open....he has other ones in mind for his car, too, so I might still get them. Who knows? And if I find something I like better then that's cool, too.

His car is liquid gray...which is kind of a dark silver. And yes I LOVE the lip.

If you haven't already, you should check out Wheelspecs.com. It's not a MINI-spec only site - and they don't sell anything - but there are a LOT of wheels to look at there and you could surf around for ideas and then check out specs, fit, etc, if you find something that tickles your fancy.

LMini,

I have a set of Konigs but they are the Konig Holes, very similar to the one you want and it looks great on my car. The color is the same as the one you posted. Take a nlook at my pic, there is also one in the member Mini section. I think this way you can both have similar wheels but not exactly the same.

I would suggest putting this wheel choice down as a first option for you with the tires you want. Once TJ decides (and you can encourage his choice for a different wheel-esp if it is a good match for the focus) then you are free (no longer in conflict) to order this set. Be aware that sometimes the tires and rims can be on backorder for months. This could delay your or his choice. Thus more waiting. Also sometimes the rims come in different widths. The 18s will come wider usually hence you can choose 35 or 40 series tires. The 17s come in 7 and 7.5" so 45 series. The 7 width is good to save weight and cost and gives good performance. The 8" width is good for a really wide aggressive look. Not really as useful from a traction standpoint. Adds to cost and weight.

Personally I do not see a problem with having the same rims on both cars if that is the first choice for both of you. The sizes and tires would be different. The suspensions and makes of the cars are different. You could look at the different finishes that the rims come in for some variation. Or you can buy the rims and chrome them for about $150 each rim at platecorp.com in California plus shipping costs. Adds about 1.5 to 2 pounds per rim but very very nice if you like chrome (harder to keep clean than your picture's finish). But sparkles as you go.

Very nice choice on wheels. What about 16"x6.5 or 7" for you? That is a good choice for lower cost rims and tires (50 or 45 series), smoother ride, good handling, less rolling resistance/less weight-better acceleration, less tire noise, very different look than 18" wheels. Still looks good with stock or lowered suspension (I saw 16"s with eibach springs and it was good- I thought the wheels were 17s but I was tricked).

I'm with Nomo, considering blk split-5-with a polished lip is one of the most popular wheel designs done. I think everysingle company has their version of a split/grooved 5 spoke. Look into Tenzo R, Racing Hart M5's, Velox, Rota. There are better things out there to fight about.

unless you just want to see how far you can push him then go for it. Beat him to the punch.

L.Mini,

Just a question....you guys are getting married still correct? If this is the case would the cars be both of yours...( I know people are going to say what is mine before we got married is mine...). But I think and so does my wife even when dated and lived together, when we bought something it was for us. Even for the car. So if you got the these wheels for the MINI couldn't TJ enjoy them also? And if you got a different set for the Focus could you enjoy them as much......

Think of it this way, we are buying wheels for our cars no MINE or TJ's......

Just a thought

It's a good way to think of it, but no...the MINI is mine and the Focus is TJ's even after we get married. When running to the store he would never take my keys and I wouldn't take his....our cars are like our projects. And we are both pretty involved in them. So we keep to our own as far as that is concerned. I like your thinking though!
