What are the characteristics of the Hawk HPS?
Do they produce less dust than stock?
Do they resist fading longer?
Any difference in brake pedal pressure or feel?
Are they noisy?

Less dust, and the dust is kinda brown instead of black

Definitely

Nope. At least not that I remember. but it has been ages since I had stock pads.
Are they noisy?
They don't squeak.

Agree with all of the above, plus, the lesser, lighter dust doesn't stick as tenaciously
to the wheels as the stock pads' dust, so it's easier to wipe off.
About same grip as stock cold, and better than stock warmed up.

How do Hawks compare with Ferodo 2500 and EBC Red Stuff?

OMG - my husband made the mistake of getting Ferodo, and will be getting the ones reccommended above next time. All I can say is they are annoyingly loud, sqeeley, etc. Sounds like a tactor trailor coming to an abrubt stop

My experience with Ferodo DS2500 pads is different. They never made noise in the first half of their life, and in the later miles, only for a few stops after a wet drive. They perform very well when up to temp, not so great for the first cold stop, but easily compensated for. The Ferodo pads require some serious heat cycles for the bedding in process, perhaps a timid break in may contribute to noise. I’m sure there are pads better suited for an urban environment but the DS2500 are very good high speed stoppers. BTW, I’ll be trying the Hawk HPS pads the next time around.

I used Ferrodos on my first MCS, and then on my new one. Replaced the EBC greens I did have, which had replaced the OEMS. I didn't find any advantage with the Greens except less dust. The Ferrodos have seen track days and lots of auto-x events. Over 70,000 miles on the two cars with Ferrodo 2500s.

I've found them to be a good mixed-use pad. There's certainly better for track days, but they still aren't bad when occasionally used for track & street. None of the problems you mention.

Wonder if he installed 3500s, a track-oriented pad?

i had a buddy running hawk HPS on the track at homestead last weekend. they didn't work for him. i'm sure that it will depend upon driving style and experience. he was running kuhmo V-710's and has quite a bit of track time. IMHO dual purpose pads will only work on the track until you have a certain level of experience and tire grip. brake torque is great, but can be limited by tires that don't grip. if running r-comps, i would recommend a dedicated set of track pads. lots of dust, lots of brake torque, no fade. then switch back to your low dust pads for the street. it doesn't add much time to the equation if you are switching wheels/tires anyway.

You're right, but the original question was "What is the best for street and maybe a track day or 2".

When I had the Ferodo 2500s on, they drove me nuts with their squeeking and dusting, so I had them taken off after about 1000 miles and two track days. While they Ferodos were very good on the track and stopped me without fade time after time and with little wearing, I just couldn't take the other faults, so now Hawk HPS pads are on my car. I'm pretty happy with them and have used them at the track and on the street. Fade has been non-existent, as has noticeable wear, NO noise, and just that brownish, easy-to-remove dust.
