Help With Fitment, Please.

Hi,

I have a 2003 Mini coop. It came with Goodyear Eagles NCT5 EMT run flats
195/55 16. They are worn out to say the least.

I don't see may options in this size and I hear a lot of talk about getting away from run flats , plus these go for about 240.00each installed around here.

I really don't want to spend that much, especially when I read that you can get better performance from a less expensive non run flat.

Question: is is possible to go to , say 205/50 16's. I see a lot more options in that size.

Oh yeah, every one I have spoken with say I need run flats because I don't have a spare, even the dealer. But underneath my boot there is a donut type spare. Nobody believes me unless I show them.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I've used this tire calculator in the past to try and match stock sizing, with pretty good success: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

It looks like you'll be running a little fast on your speedo if you go to the 205/50, but I don't think that'd be a problem.

You'll be fine. No need to stay with 195/55-16 size.

Most owners choose
205/50-16 or the slightly larger 205/55-16 for more comfort and better tire selection. Your choice but both will work fine for any MINI with stock suspension whether MCS or MC all years.

There is small speedo and odometer error but it is slight.

Your spare tire is good, keep it. You can use it if needed with these replacement tires in case of a flat.

Hey Thanks!, That makes a big diffrence!

I am now thinking... Kumho Ecsta ATX or Avon M550. Not real sure about the names, but both look like a good value and there are a lot of good reviews at The TireRack. I am leaning towards the Avon's just because they have just a few higher point in the survey and the price is like $40 bucks more.

Any input here would be great.

Okay, another question...
Kumho Ecsta ATX, 205/50 16
Avon M550, 205/55/16

What would I notice in the different tire sizes, be it any tire.

Thanks for your help!!
