I am tired of the brake dust! If I replace my pads, do I need to cut the rotors or can I just replace the pads? I have 10K on my car, and no warping or excessive brake wear at all.

Help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I replaced the front pads, (since I couldn't get the rears) and did not turn the rotors. Mine had 12,800 miles on it and the rotors were in great shape. I now have 13,400 miles and they work great. The dust on the front is now about the same as the rear. I hope to do the rears as soon as they are available. Break in for me was only 1 week (350 miles) and I only noticed a difference in performance for the first 1 or 2 days. A very good upgrade.

Just wanted to display my ignorance for a moment...what on EARTH does cutting the rotors involve? Incidentally, whatever it is, it's not mentioned in the Out Motoring How-To...

Thanks.

This post I made the comment about resurfacing rotors. Here is our piece on resurfacing.

Braking is done by building up a transfer film (a layer of brake lining) on the surface of the rotor. When you had a new compound brake lining, I recomed removed old friction material film so the new film can be built up.
