You're right- all the OEMs are stupid & you're right Minimc...

You must be smarter than all of engineers that design aluminum suspension systems for millions of cars every year.

You must be very happy that the new Mini weighs almost twice as much as the original Mini- Maybe you should design a new car manufactured entirely of lead???

You guys have gotten off topic. This thread was about fitting a BMW front lower on a Mini. Whether it be 4130 or 6061, the fact is that it won't work. It's just a foolish idea to put time and money into as it can be done a whole lot easier and cheaper to start from scratch. And do it without redesigning the entire front end geometry.
If one plans to put aluminum suspension parts on their car, then they sure better get in the habbit of checking them at least once a month.

Note, the M7 arms broke due to bushing issues, not due to structural issues.

Come on your not an engineer

If you need a structural engineer to figure out the science for you that's cool. But the calculations we're talking about do not require a degree.

Sorry man, but from your words it appears you love this idea and really don't care to hear the realities.

As I said, if this were a track-specific car I could understand, but even then, I'd keep spares.

SNL's old "bad idea beer" adverts come to mind.

Seriously you keep harping on this guy about it not working but you're not an engineer and aluminum is used in some supercars with carbon fiber before composites. Unless you want to build one or buy an aluminum control arm and perform stress tests on it, stop giving your opinion that it won't work like you are stating fact.

My personal opinion with a thick 6061 bar with good solid welds should work. The main issue is weight. If the weight is much lower then a trucks al suspension and is built like it, if you are racing with hard turns... Look at a f1 race cars suspension....

Holy necromancy!

This thread is older than my 16 year old son! Why’d you revive it to spout an unneeded and already stated in thread 16 years ago opinion?

move this thread have both 2023 posts deleted and be locked as it was a rabbit hole of idiocy to begin with.
