Lower Control Arm Shims
Lower Control Arm Shims
Looks like the GP is the only MINI to require "shims" for the lower control arms, as the trailing arms, for whatever reason, have a wider space to receive the LCAs...
Question: Do the shims, one for each LCA, go toward the front, or the rear of the car, by the camber adjuster?
Thanks much.

Sorry, no answer, but is this because of your GP trailing arm conversion? Just curious since I just ordered R55 arms and will be doing the conversion soon.
I know the arms are slightly different in details, but haven't seen any pics up close.

Yes, doing the rear trailing arm conversion this week or weekend, if I get other parts too. I decided to replace the rear rotors, hubs and pads while at it...
For those with GPs, here's the exploded diagram, with #15 being the shim:

Looks like it would go on the rear side, nearest the camber adjustment plate... Would be nice to confirm though...
The GP rear trailing arm is an odd ball in that the spacing for the lower arm is much greater than the upper one, requiring a spacer or shim. I'm trying to figure-out what type of design benefit incorporates a shim. The later R56 rear trailing arms are very similar, but spacing is consistent for the upper and lower control arms, so no shims needed... Makes me wonder if MINI screwed-up, and added this shim to remedy the mistake.
