cutting stock bumpstops which half to use?

Hi, saw this question in another thred & did a search but couldnt find a definative answer.

When cutting the stock bumpstops for use with lowerd springs what part did you use the top or bottom half?

Which half is better to use and why?

If you used the top half how did you attach the shock dust cover?

Or did you just use the stock bumpstops with no cutting?

Thanks

the front you want to use the top half right, cause it holds
the boots... (?) or was that another car? can't remember which was
which.

I would use the top half on the rear as well.

That's what I was told my Shelly at M7...

Use the top half that holds up the boot. The larger half...

even though the top holds the dust cover on, the bottom is the load bearing part. the OEM bumpstops are hollow, if you keep just the top you'll bottom out immediately. the H-sports come w/ replacement bumpstops lower halves which provide more travel w/o bottoming out.

so the answer is the bottom is more important, keep it unless you have replacements w/ the h-sport ones.

I'm sorry, but that doesnt make total sense.

The bumpstops get pressed from both sides, so therefore either side is perfectly adept to take the pressure. And their not hollow, their progressive.

yes, they're progressive, which means the top half and the bottom half compress at different rates (ie: top is softer, bottom is stiffer), at least that is how progressive bumpstops usually react. and they are hollow, its not a solid bumpstop

pics of ome bumpstop

Here is a pic of the ome bumpstop the top is the solid part the bottom is the partially hollow part that holds on the dust boot (you can see the ridge around it that the boot clips on to)

I know that you can buy after market bumpstops but a lot of people seem to be useing the ome bumpstops and I read questions for advice about cutting them all the time so................

What would be usefull to know is which half of the bumpstop people have used.
If you used the top half how has it performed?
How did you attach the dust boot?
Does it matter if the dust boot is attached or not?
If you used the bottom half did it work effectively bearing in mind its slightly hollow? Thanks for all the info so far
