Rich,

It's actually true that the new Madness bar has 3 holes. That's the only change - but the two rear holes are still the ones you want to use. Right now, if you have the stock springs, the H&Rs, or the H-Sport springs the newest most forward hole may cause fitment issues with the droplink. I'm still working on that, but it doesn't change the performance of the bar, and if you have the coilovers, the forward hole can then be used.

Anyone looked at the Alta lowering springs? The numbers on those seem very appealing.

Speaking of numbers... does anyone have springs rates and lowering amounts for all the popular springs?

Rates:
H&R - F220 R225
Eibach -
H-Sport - F170->180->200 R220->350
Alta -

Ride height:
H&R - F 1" R 1.2" (after settling)
Eibach -
H-Sport -
Alta -

Anyone?

The H&R's lower 0.75f and 1.0r
H-Sport about 1.0" front and rear

They are both progressive rate springs, so it's not fair to give "numbers", a graph would be more appropriate. Randy may have such data.

Speaking of which, I ordered a set of H-Sports from Randy yesterday. He was great to chat with, and I'm excited to be among the first to install them. Now I just need to get my MINI (due early next week!)

Cheers,
Ryan

H-Sport springs and Stock rear bar: Randy have you tested this configuration? If so, how close to neutral is the ride?

Thanks,
Gary

Ryan, the H-Sports are actually linear rate springs. 300lbs./in in the rear and 195lbs./in in the back.

I can't say this makes any sense Albert When I talked to Randy yesterday, his findings were: the front springs start off about 150lb/in, and progress to about 250lb/in. The rears start about 250lb/in, and progress to about 350lb/in.

Albert: I tend to trust Randy's testing versus H-Sports executives!

Regards,
Ryan

Ok, I've heard everyone comments on the H&R vs H-Sport thus far, and think I'll go ahead with the H-Sports. Randy I'll give you a call sometime regarding the order of those as well as a Madness intake which I've decided upon, over the BMP design.
But now my question is this: Hasn't been addressed too much thus far in this thread. Not sure of other threads. My experiences with suspensions, is that with anywhere around a 1.5"-2" drop, it's advised to go with a different strut set-up. How many of you have been running with stock struts and an H&R or H-Sport spring setup? Any comments, opinions, or suggestions regarding that? I just don't want to shell out for the springs and then more for some upgraded struts. I might as well go with a whole coil over kit then. I'd like the KW kit, but spending an est. $2000 (CDN) for it is wayyy out of the ballpark. Not even in the same field or sport anymore.
Can the stock struts handle the increased higher compression level if I went with the H-Sports?
Also I have 16X7 Konig 'Holes' rims, with 205/45R16 Yoko Parada Spec2 tires. Any rubbing with that combo?
Randy, or anyone else for that matter, if you could address these questions prior to my ordering, I'd apprecaite muchly.
Cheers and Thanx in advance to shedding some light here for me.

Madman,

Good questions.

I agree that to keep proper travel wiht a 2" drop, you should shorten the strut and match them to the springs you use. With the H&Rs and H-Sport springs, the drop is at the max 1", so it really isn't an issue. The H-Sports and the H&Rs were designed to work with the stock strut compression and rebound, and in fact the rates hover around the stock rates.

What is the offset on the Konig wheels? Even if they are 40mm, they will work fine with the H-sport springs, but the H&Rs may allow the tires to rub slightly under compression (they are a slightly softer rate). If they are 37mm, the rear will probably require a slight mod (see the How-to stapled to the top of the Performance Mod forum).

Let me know if you have any other questions, and feel free to call and I'd be happy to cover all the bases.

Randy

Thanx Randy
The wheels are a 40mm offset. So with that, it's a guaranteed fit without problems??
Not sure what the time difference is between where I am (Canadian west coast. BC.), and where you are in Denver? About 1 hour difference if I'm not mistaken. Don't want it to be like 3 in the morning when I call.
I'm real busy during the week, so maybe I'll try you Saturday afternoon at the # you posted. Sound good? Then we can go from there.
Cheers,

Before:

After:

I forgot to measure the "before" ground to wheelwell height, but the "after" height is 24 7/8 front and rear with OEM 205/45-17. According to Randy, the H-Sports lower the car about 7/8" front and back.

[edit], the first shot is the MCS totally stock. The 2nd pic is with the H-Sports and H&R 5mm wheel spacers installed.

I put my H-Sport springs and Madness rear bar on my MCS last Tues. but the power steering pump went out Wed morn. and the dealer had it until yesterday(Tues.). Arghhhh! I finally got to try it out today. An hours' run up Big Tujunga Canyon and all I have to say is WOW!!! It's a different car. I was running up to 10mph faster than before. I think it's been said before but this thing now turns from the middle (right under your butt) instead of the front. I think I need to increase my setting on the toe for the street as we set it more for Auto-X numbers but boy did it turn.

I have an early build MCS but have had the factory upgrade for the front struts. Will the later build springs (H&R or H-Sport) fit on my car? Will the maddness rear sway bar fit.
