Suspension Curred The RSB Squeeks!
Curred The RSB Squeeks!
Anyone that has installed an aftermarket rear sway bar regardless of the diameter usually winds up "eventually" expereincing that annoying squeeking sound that occurs once the grease that was applied to the bushings during installation. The grease that came with my Alta 22mm RSB lost it's effectiveness in about 4 months. Get this when I took it to the local Mini/BMW dealer their solution was to remove all the grease completely and for that they charged me $100.00! Needless to say I was pissed and complained becasue their efforts didn't solve a thing. I than started asking around about what guys do that run track cars and they said they just wrap teflon plumbers tape around the bar where the bushings sit. So this afternoon I tried it, I needed to disassemble the entire rear sway bar forst to get complete access but since I installed it originally this was pretty easy. I wrapped the bar up at the two points where the busings are, bolted everything back up to the proper torque settings and guess, no more squeeks
. How long the tape will last is yet to be seen but it eliminated the annoying sound immediately and I am a happy camper
cool. but let us know again in like a year. hehe
btw, im using my usual white lithium grease on my Alta. i don't get
any noise. Just make sure to put grease inside/out of the bushing
and on the bottom of the bushings where it sits.
im using this stuff on my other car too... no noise. it's been like
1.5years.
