They're actually Koni Springs/Shocks, not coilovers. I have a sneaking suspicion that the H-Sports and the Koni Springs are the same thing though.




Also, my KW pics are with KW springs not coilovers. I had the KW coilovers and they dumped the car super low. They also "porpoised" like crazy so they had to be sent back. Be warned future KW coilover buyers!

Now I'm wondering if I should just get H&R's. They are the cheapest. What are the Pro's and Con's? Anybody? I never fully understood why ITSDCHZ junked them? I read all his threads. I'm confused.

 

Interesting ... I have not had this problem with my KW variant 1s. However, they are the old design with the linear springs in front with helper springs.

In fact, I would argue that while stiffer, they provide a much more controlled and refined ride than stock. They also work very nicely on the track.

Part of the problem may have been the "dumped the car super low". Mine are set about 1.25" lower than stock. I've seen people with M7 springs that look lower.

same ones i had. and they were porpoising within 5 minutes of putting them on! i think it was just a fluke, i dont think kw puts out a bad product, but i wouldn't buy coilovers from them again.

 

i have been reading about teins all over the place, does anyone use them, especially the electronic ones that allow you to do your business in minutes (height...etc.)

Thanks guys!!! i think im either getting h-sports or m7s. im going to keep my stock web spokes(i think r98s) lower with either 5mm spacers on the front and 15mm spacers on the rear. can i just lower and drive or do i need to get camber plates? trying to find the cheapest but right way to do this! thanks!! and the pics comin!!

 

what are the offsets on the R98's? 15mm offset spacers on the rear?!

 

Dunno about mistaking your SSR's for 17's, but I love how your stripes don't have that white edge on them! Plan black - perfect!

 

Thanks, Tit. i just took a sharp razor and cut off the factory stripes'
white (tacky) borders while it was on the car! j/k. I just picked up
a 2nd pair at the dealer; too lazy to wait for the 3rd party bonnet
stripe makers as they take too damn long to process one simple order.:impatient

I don't care to run 17's on SSR's. I don't think they are better nor envy
anyone that have 17" SSR's. Must use 16x7.5's if you want to go for
true performance-street in chi-town on the MCS.

You won't need camber plates for the front as lowering doesn't change the front camber. Just adjust the front toe. You will however need adjustable rear locating arms. Set of 2 will allow you to adjust only toe, 4 will allow you to adjust both toe and camber. I know of some that have gone with only 2 for toe but, they had tons of rear camber (over 2.5 degree neg). I have not done it yet, but when I do it will be the H-Sport springs with 4 rear bars.

My R90's came with SP9000 DSST's and 205/45/17 size, but they
look much narrower than yours.

after looking at your pict (on the other thread), ive been thinking
about perhaps getting a Trax +5mm and some longer lugs and
use my R90's in the spring before temps are high enough for the
GS-D3's. in that case, i would wrap some HTR+'s in 215/45/17
or 215/40/17 size, probably. (need something M+S for the colder months)

Apexer got this a little backwards. Adding adjustable lower control arms (2) on the rear will allow camber adjustment. Toe can still be adjusted to a small degree with the stock mounting bolts. I was able to get a little more toe in than the stock setting up to a little toe out. Adding adjustable upper control arms (2 more) will provide more toe range and provide easier adjustability. The stock toe adjustment is a little twitchy without the special tool.
