Suspension Cold Sway Bar Creaking?
Cold Sway Bar Creaking?
I've had an Alta rear sway bar since April and I've never heard any creaks. But the temperature got down near 50 degrees and now whenever I go over a bump or go around a sharp turn I'll hear a squeak. After the daytime temperatures warm things up, the suspension is silent. Is this the rear sway bar or could it be something else? I haven't done any other mods other than an exhaust. If it's the bar does it need more lube already or could it need tightening? If this is just a cold weather annoyance, rather than a problem I think I can live with it since I live in Florida and the cold is very infrequent. Thanks in advance for any advice.
Where exactly is it coming from? We've got an '02 and have always had a creak/rattle coming from the hatch area. It's really noticeable when your going onto a driveway and every time a wheel hits the curb, it creakes. If this is what your experiencing, I don't think it's swaybar related. If it's definitely coming from down where the swaybar is, then you might want to get some grease and re-lube the bushing.
I have the same problem. I recently sparayed WD-40 on the control arm heim joints and it helped some. I suspect that one must remove the bar brackets and put in more/better grade of grease. I too would like to hear from others...
My ALTA Just started squeaking now that we are having sub 65 degree days here in Colorado.
I know I need to regrease it. What is the easiest way to regrease? Do I have to undo the droplinks and undo the swaybar clamps? I have the ALTA and it doesn't have grease zerks.

If it is the sway bar, it is most likely the polyurethane bushings, which do a fine job of squeezing out any grease you manage to get in there. Try to get some penetrating lube into the bushings - if that kills the squeak, then either learn to live with it, or drill the bushings and install grease zerks.
Mine is a Mini Madness bar, which uses bushings that have grooves inside against the bar to retain the grease.

My ALTA bushings have grooves inside as well. Can I just lift the car, remove the wheels, and remove the clamps/bushings and regrease or do I have to undo the endlinks as well?
I bought some good lithium grease this morning on my way home.

Whoa, I have the same issue with an R-Speed sway bar that's been on the car for 6 months. I recently picked up a squeak on one side that I assumed was the result of a recent stretch of wet weather pulling out the lube. But now that you mention it, the last few days have been warmer and the squeak is (nearly) gone. I'd also like to know - if I jack up the back end, can the C-shaped brackets be removed & re-attached easily (one at a time), or will the bar move and be difficult to get back into place?
An amateur question..
I also have a H-sport rear sway bar, can someone explain how to greese or lube the bushings? I know that the sway bar is connected to two endlinks on each side of the rear wheels, and there are two C clamps that lock them onto the rear suspension arm. But I have no idea what are the bushings, and how to greese them?
