Lowering springs and 2005 struts/shocks?

Anyone using any of the popular lowering springs (H-sport, Alta, H&R, M7, etc.) with the 2005 stock struts?

Just curious as I have read how the factory "softened" the 2005 suspension. Are the 2005 stock struts up for the task of lowering springs?

Any feedback is appreciated!

Where did you read about the factory softening the 2005 suspension? Does this apply to the MC with the SS+? It sounds like a positive development to me. If I stay stock, it will be less harsh with 17" rims. If I lower and the shocks/struts aren't up to it, I'll go with Bilstein (HD?).

I've seen various articles/threads on the topic. Not sure if the dampening rates have been changed or the spring rates.

Just curious as to actual experience with lowering springs and stock 2005 struts.

If they don't work well, I'll just hold out for coilovers ... which is normally what I use on my cars. However, if the stock struts really do work well aftermarket springs (i.e. H-sport) that is a nice and cheap alternative.

I'm on the stock MC suspension (non-ss+) and I just had the HSports put on. The ride is better than stock but still rough here and there on larger bumps and manhole covers. Small bumps are much smoother-

As far as being softer, I couldn't say, but they did change shocks in late 2003 builds and later, I believe.

I beleive Mini/BMW is using a slightly lighter viscosity oil in the dampers, among a few other possible alterations.

I would never advise using stock dampers with any after market spring that is heavier, shorter or both. The stock dampers will wear faster. however, plenty of folks have had good success.

I'm using H-Sport springs and the rear sway bar on my stock 2005 struts. They are fine and it rides fine, and this is with the Dragon and many country road travelings
