They go on the outside of the bushings to keep the bar from sliding

What happens if you don't put them on? The stock bar doesn't have them? Hope that's not a stupid question. My RSpeed came with them also but it didn't have instructions for them and I didn't bother putting them on.

The stock bar is fixed in the bushings, so it can't slide, unlike the new ones.

The stock bar has an extra bend in it.

This is where your retainer ring should go. This is on an R-speed bar

Under hard cornering, the sway bar can slide towards one side and come in contact with the spring. It happened to a good friend, whom also deleted the process of installing them. Later, he went back and reinstalled them.

Looks like the latest madness bar has these stops built into the bar.

I also have the R-Speed bar, and when it was installed (at Steve's Auto Clinic) they left the retainer rings off... they said they wouldn't fit.

My question: Did you have to grind a bit on the sub-frame (above the rings & bushings) to make them fit, without rubbing on the sub-frame?

I occasionally hear some stange noise come from back there, and I'm guessing it's sometimes hitting the springs.

I have the RDR 19mm sway bar on..The retaining rings would NOT fit..So far I have had no trouble with slipping or rubbing....I have "pushed" the car into turns trying to hear or feel something not right..I love the way it makes the car feel

Yes I did grind a bit above the bushings but the retainer rings are clear of the frame.

I am curious, what exactly was getting in the way - of getting the retaining rings to fit?

The noise from my 22mm bar is very rare... it mainly seems to happen when going stright... sometimes over a bump. Sometimes, just starting out going stright. I am going have to put the car up on stands and take a look to see if I can figure what is causing the noise.

Maybe my noise is coming from the bushings hitting that area above? That did seem like a tight space... and I don't think they did any griding... I guess I am going to have to look there... and do it. What did you use to cover - or treat the area where you did the griding on? Something to prevent rust?

I put my rings on toward the outside of the bars and there wasn't anyplace they could interfere with. The bushings were a close fit though. Did they try to put yours on toward the inside of the bar?

The bushings have a thick piece of metal holding them down. If they are bolted in they shouldn't move. The holes in the bushing brackets do allow for some ragne in positioning. If the position is off and your bar is not perfectly straight, the bow toward the center of the bar can contact the body when it rotates.

Put it up on stands, undo the links to the bar and rotate the bar to see if it can move freely. Mine was squeeking on some seam sealer. I just loosened up the mounts and pulled the bar back, problem solved.

I forgot all about the bow in the center. When they installed it, I wasn't standing right there. But that could be it. As I recall, the bow in the center of the R-Speed bar is very slight and hard to see.

Thanks... those are all helpful tips to look for.

I am not sure if the R-Speed is the same as the other bar.

I used some red silicon.

Rdr

I installed the RDR 19MM rear sway bar and everything fit perfectly into place without rubbing or touching any other part of the car.
