Suspension Lowering difference MC vs. MCS,
Lowering difference MC vs. MCS,
Well, I purchased the Tein H.tech springs a few weeks ago, for a very good price($200 canadian) from a pretty large performance shop. I took it to a shop. Before they began putting the new springs on, I measured from the top of the rim to the plastic moulding on the wheal well (12cm all around). The mechanic installed the new springs as I was pacing around him.
As soon as the car was completed I measured again, knowing that the springs need to settle, wanted to measure anyways. I was surprised to see 12cm all around. Not even a bit of a drop
Next thing I did was drive around a bit, about 15 minutes, stopped at a bussiness complex to measure again and agian no drop.
Okay maybe I was being too anxious, I told myself.
As I was exiting the bussiness complex I go over a speed-bump, and I notice a metal-on-metal noise coming from the passenger front side.
I go over a few more speed-bumps and I hear it over and over.
So I drive back to the shop, they take off the spring and realize that the spring is defective and isnt sitting on the strut mount? properly.
I pay the mechanic to put the stock springs back on.
I was there from 10 am until 5:15pm. It was a great way to blow $300
Question: I have a MC and Tein says these springs lower the car 0.6 inches in the front and 0.5 at rear. Tein also says that they are for a MCS.
Do you guys think that because I have a MC the drop will be that much less? (weight of MC vs MCS)
If so, then should I think about getting the S.tech instead (1.2 and 1.1 inche drop for a MCS).
I wasnt looking for a massive drop something moderate as I still drive in the winter in Toronto, ON, Canada.
I have to try and return the springs tomorrow, I hope they dont give me a hassle of exchange only.
Kinda fustrated with spending $300 and nothing to show for it, thinking on not modding the mini at all.

Sorry to hear that, but early 2002 MC suspension has different struts and springs. Your performance shop may not be aware of that.
Same thing happened to me, I ordered a set of eibach from tiretrends and they send me the wrong set. My shop didn't notice that until they removed the suspension parts. Fortunately they let my car sit in the shop for a few days until I got the right springs so I don't have to pay extra labour. But I wasn't very happy with tiretrend's customer service. They refused to ship me the right set of spring with express shipping without extra charges.
Now they have lose my business.
Just wondering where did u get your springs from? If your performance shop cannot figure out what's the right part for your car, I recommend you to refund your money and look for a better shop.

If you are still under warranty you can have it replaced with the updated front springs and struts. The early '02 suspension had a subtle "left pull" that is remedied with this change. You can identify the older front struts by looking at the top of the strut tower. If the top of the strut protrudes through the hole, they are the older ones.
Once the struts are changed, you can install your springs. Good luck.
Cheers.

Thanks everybody,
but the problem isnt the actual strut it is the defective tein spring.
I'm not having any problems with the stock suspension, nor does the strut protrude. that "left" was solved before I got the car I guess.
What about the drop, how much of a difference between the MC and the MCS, for the same spring? I know .. it all depends on the vehicle.
I thought a 0.6 in the front and 0.5 in rear would be good for me, would you think i would get that, given that those are the specs for the MCS instead on my MC?
