New bumpstops with spring change?

For those of you who do not have H-sport springs, which come with new optimized bumpstops, did you just put your stock bumpstops back on? I've heard of some cutting the stock pieces in half? Thanks for the info!! Peace.

I just had the H-Sports put on with the new bump-stops. I'm having rubbing problems though because of my 37mm offset wheels. The bump-stops are small rubber washers and you basically cut and use 1/4 of the original bumpstops to allow you to utilize the plastic shock covers. Gives you a lot more suspension travel and makes the ride really nice. I think i'm going to have to switch back to the OEM bump stops as I find it 1) feels too much like the OEM springs, 2) the added suspension travel is wrecking havoc on my fender liners. I had to cut out a big chunk so that the wheels would clear properly.

The lower car will have LESS suspension travel than stock. If you go to a longer bump-stop to prevent rubbing because of the wheel offsets, you're curing the symptom but not the cause. You'll end up with a lower car that doesn't have much suspension travel, so you'll bottom on smaller road features, and this will effect the overall handling of the car.

You're better off to run the offset that will prevent the rubbing than just limiting travel.

yeh, I agree with Matt. You're going to be riding on you bumpstops.
You should trim your rear fender arch (alex from tirerack has details)
with a simple file or dremel on the inside. Should be very easy to do.

The H-sport bumpstops are very small...like only 1 to 1.2inch in length.
I think you can cut the stock bumpstop by half and still be larger than
the H-Sport bumpstops. the H-sport bump stops are hard rubber so
you might want to keep the stock one no shorter than 1.25"

So... for those of us considering this, what do we have to know?

I/m thinking of putting in a set of springs (M7's), but do I need to get new struts as well? ...do all springs ship with their own bumpstops?

On my last ride (Acura integra) I put in Koni struts/springs (coilover set) so it was all one thing, so to speak, and all worked well. If I put in springs alone (aside from control arms and camber plates) will my stock struts work well, or will I have rubbing issues?

Thanks - - m

m,

The M7 springs don't come with bump stops and the stock struts will work just fine. For M7 springs the recomended bump stop modification is to just cut them in half. Real easy with a hack saw.

i tried running without the bumpstops (Leda coilovers)...don't do it; you'll get some major slamming on NYC typical roads (ugly)

i put the stocker stops back in, had to enlarge the hole to get them on.
then I raised the car to about the highest the coilovers would allow to get full travel. seems to work.

why would one try to run without the bumpstops? you can damage the piston itself...
