Budget Coils or Struts?

Lets talk suspension 2012 clubman. Apparently I've got rear shocks needing replaced. They aren't full blown yet but have an oil leak. I plan on taking it to track days but it'll never be a real racecar. Already have one of those and I'm a dirt guy so this will be for giggles no serious competition. My current racer pictured What's the most economical way to a decent setup. Again it's not an actual track weapon I just need good enough and daily driver on poorly maintained roads. Budget sub 1k. AK Street Coilover Suspension Kit - Fixed Damping 280$Solo-Werks S1 Coilovers 499

Or some strut and spring combo? I can do the work myself and I truly understand the benefits of great suspension. I have more than the total cost of the Mini in my Race Cars shocks alone. I need to reiterate. Daily drive. Maybe a few track days.

Do you prefer to keep the OEM ride height? That will narrow down your options.

Unsure on R55 but on 1st Gen R53, lowering causes bumps 'n scrapes on our local small town street intersections. Enough so that I removed lowering springs and replaced those with JCW Sport "reds" which were claimed to be just 10mm drop vs OEM S-spec. Ah, so much better - at least on mine being quite modified. Taller ride height allowed me to go +1 tire size, which then corrected the typically fast speedo error on the hwy...

A bit off-topic but that's a very cool race X3! Are you on Maverick Forums? Aside from my buddy and I both owning low mileage 2006 R53, we both also own 2020 Maverick Sport XRC - strictly for rocky mountain terrain (not be be confused with the 'Rockies') plus Jeep Rubicons too. BoyZ and their Toyz...

Yep, I found and checked out your main website URL!

Had a 2000 TJ factory ordered new and immediately modded that for tough terrain. Kept nearly 21 yrs as my primary trail rig until got into SxS rigs and parked that until sold with some subsequent regrets. 2017 JK Rubi 6-spd 2-dr bought new primarily as an overkill grocery-getter but subsequently moderately modded for milder stuff (we went out for a short run today). Our town and neighborhood is surrounded by NF (literally at my backyard), so we can do loops from home in jeeps or SxS without trailering to staging points. Likewise, keep 5th wheel RVs year-round in easternmost AZ, where we do longer runs 2-3x/week when we're there from the RV park up to 10k'+ elev. Oh and being retired helps a lot too...
