Suspension R58 Suspension upgrade
R58 Suspension upgrade
I’m thinking of the following to upgrade my R58 suspension - what do you think?Anything I am missing? Mostly street and occasional track use.
Koni yellow dampers
Swift Spec R springs
IE stage 2 adjustable camber plate
Was thinking bigger rear sway, but from what I recall the R58 has a slightly thicker one as standard anyway (compared to R56)
Thanks

I think Ireland Engineering gets a bad rap around here.
I currently have IE's adjustable camber plates, rear control arms, stainless brake lines, rear anti-roll bar and adjustable endlinks. When I purchased another vendor's adjustable endlinks for the front, the vendor made sure to point out that he'd be sure to sell me good stuff to replace the IE parts when they inevitably fail or break. I thought that was pretty poor form. Between that and laughing at me when I asked about corner balancing (after I purchased coilovers from him) needless to say, that was last thing I'll buy from him. I am more than happy with Ireland Engineering for both daily driving and track use. I will also say, the IE adjustable endlinks are a far superior level of quality vs. Way Motor Works adjustable endlinks. Actually, the only issue I've had with IE is that there fittings are SAE rather than metric, but I like buying tools so that works out. I think the issues some had with the camber plates were corrected years ago.
I can't vouch for the Koni's and Swift spring though, I'm on KWv2. I would definitely recommend KW. If it's in your budget, do it. Once adjusted properly, the ride is not harsh, and the car feels good on the street and planted on the track.
Granted all of this is from an R56, but I hope this helps, good luck!

You should for sure make the rear sway bar the first mod as that is the best bang for the buck. The R56 and R58 use the same bars. Go with our Hsport Comp bar as it is ideal and will really reduce the understeer and save tire life.

Then for shocks the Koni Yellows are great, but using R56 lowering springs on an R58 will tend to sag the rears due to the extra rear weight of the R58. So I typically avoid going with just springs on them.
So if you can put it into the budget I'd look at going with a set of coilovers. A set of Megans with Camber plates is less than $900, but will be a pretty firm ride.
Ideally moving up to something like our TSW KW V2 would be perfect as they will ride well for every day use, but be killer for performance as they are matched so well. https://www.waymotorworks.com/kw-var...r55-56-57.html
Then go with Vorshlag Camber plates as we have never had a set fail and they are double bearing so they split the load on the shock shaft.

Also keep in mind since you are lowering you'll want some rear lower control arms to dial in the camber and toe. I only recommend the Hsports as they are the most reliable without making noise. Ones with heim joints just end up clunking. And we've had to replace the IE ones before. Also the Hsports adjust in the middle so your alignment guy will love you, when they adjust on the ends it's so much harder to get adjusted then tight on the inside end.

Hello.
Based on what I've been reading here, a rear sway bar is highly recommended as the first suspension upgrade.
I've already ordered mine and will receive it in a week's time and will install a week after that.
As for the dampers, Koni yellow dampers are a good choice. Though it is worth noting that you should have a look at the Koni FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) as those are dynamic/adaptive to driving style and road conditions.
IE stage 2 adjustable camber plates are also recommended by some owners.
Not so sure about the springs.
Best of luck and keep us posted.
