Coilovers and 18's

Hello all ... New to the lowered mini world ... I just picked up a 2010 cluman s laural ed and looking to do some upgrades. I have somewhat of a budget since im doing motor upgrades ans suspension at the same time.

Here is my question .... Do i need a spacer to run a 18x8 +38 when lowering the car on raceland or godspeed coilovers ? 215-40-18 tire size ....if i dont go with coilovers the h&r 1.4" springs and factory struts are my 2nd option.

Thanks in advance.....

likely spacer in the rear for sure.. if you have JCW brakes up front, possible small spacer as well

at least a 5mm rear spacer.. if not 5mm front/10mm rear

*front calipers and rear strut are the clearance issues

18x8 +38 shouldn’t need spacers, but will require some camber to clear fenders.

This is a helpful website for checking clearance and fitment:

You won't need to run super aggressive camber up front to clear, I would run 215/35/18 though with that setup to get some stretch. Rears will rub for sure if you do not run aggressive camber.

When you say aggressive chamber can you elaborate on how much ? I don't like the super staneced riding on 25% tire look. Im guessing the lower i go the more i will need. Has me leaning toward the h&R springs.
Ive dug through this site looking at over 75 pages of wheel pics and i think I'm more overwhelmed now then before.

You will rub the rear fender liner/wheel arch with that width/offset/tire combo on a lowered R55/56.

A slightly lower profile will help reduce some of the rubbing and you'd want to run some camber to avoid further rubbing.

You should be ok with springs but definitely not with coilovers if you're planning to go low.
