Swaybar upgrade?

Ok. I know this has been discussed but cannot find it anywhere.

I just picked up a REALLY nice 2009 JCW with the Sport Suspension (Not JCW Suspension). Supposedly it has a 18mm rear swaybar. I have a brand new 19mm sitting in my garage with a set of greasable bushings. Will it be worth the work to install it? What can I expect from the addition? Thanks

you not trying hard enough, im new here and used the SEARCH button and can find plenty of info. Try using catch words with your SEARCH like: 19mm, swaybar
Even use the brand of the sway bar you have in your search, you will come up with something, worked for me just fine.

One mm is about the thickness of a dime. With that in mind, what do you think? It will not hurt and you can get a thicker one for a couple hundred dollars.

Yes, lots of info here on swaybars. I have a 22.

Well, I actually already HAVE the 19mm as I was going to install it on my other MINI but it just didn't happen. I was just trying to figure if it was worth the time to install it or just sell it off.

Do you NEED an alignment when you install the sway bar?

Thanks

I had my car aligned after the bar was installed. You would be dropping the rear end.

Do some research on the bar thickness. As with allot of mods here, you will get as many opinions as there are stars in the sky.

You should measure the bar on your car now as it is likely only a 17mm, The JCW or hyper sport had an 18.5mm bar so we don't see many of them.

The 19mm will be better than stock, but for the work I would just go ahead and get an Hsport Comp rear bar as it will make a much bigger difference and be better suited for you.

You don't need to do an alignment. I've personally done hundreds of rear sway bars and not aligned them as you don't move the alignment adjustments.

Just a quick question here along the same lines... Selling my R53 and have a 22mm rear on there now. Considering a R56S or R55S for my next and wondering if my R53 bar is still compatible with R55-56 suspension? I will keep it if so since I got a killer price on it. If not I'll leave it on the R53.

Nevermind... researched and answered my own question. Same part for R50, 52, 53, 55, 56 & 57. Thanks!
