aftermarket intake

I am a former volkswagon jetta owner and I have a 2003 mini cooper. When I had my volkswagon and had an aftermarket k & n filter intake people were having mass air flow sensor failures due to the oil that is on the k&n. The oil would get trapped on the sensor and burn into it causing the MAF to fail.
Is this a potential problem with the mini also? I am debating getting an aftermarket intake for my mini then an exhaust and If someone could shed some light on the issue that would be great.

I've wondered about this as well, although I have a foam filter. The risk hardly seems worth it for the 3 HP (if we're lucky :smile.

I've never heard of any Mini owners having those kind of problems with their CAI.

I have the Alta and am very happy with it.

If you're worried about the oil, wrap the cone in newspaper for a few days.

i've had the alta on my MCS for about a month now and have nothing but good stuff to say about it. are you talking Cooper or Cooper S? i'm a bit less familiar with the aftermarket for the Cooper, but would assume if the S owners don't have problems with their intakes the Cooper owners won't either.

MINIs don't use MAF sensors. The intake goes straight into the throttle body and then into the suppercharger. There should be no issues with oil, and I have had none with my K&N.

He may have a MC. In that case, he doesn't have a "suppercharger".

I've got just over 4,500 miles on my 03 Cooper with an aftermarket Moss MINI intake that was oiled with K & N. Sounds and feels great! No issues.

Here is info on the install.

Dogh! I get MCS-ities sometimes and forget about our little brothers. My bad. Still no MAF or concerns about the oil that I can think of.

Cai

I have the Alta CAI w/ stock hose on for @ 3 months.
I took off my intercooler to install the M7 tube "device"
There was oil in the rubber conections and in the IC.
I took off the hose to the CAI, It was a little oily on the fillter side.
The throttle was oily too but it is down stream of the crankcase vent inlet.
So I think the CAI is probablly the least of yer worries.
I'm looking for a catch can now!
PS. The M7 tube did help some, revs come up faster.
