Power Steering fluid leak

Hello,

I have a messy PS system on an 05 MCS with 70k miles. Is there a common failure item that causes leaks on these cars? The leak seems to be from one or both of the hoses to the reservoir. The rear hose is messy all the way up to the reservoir; the front hose has a bit of oil on it but no nearly so messy. The reservoir itself seems OK. Of course the mess accumulates at the bottom, but again seems most concentrated around the rear hose.

Anybody know about this, or know of a thread that addresses it already? I'll keep searching as well.

THanks, Jeremy

My 2006 MCSa power steering hoses leaked as you described. It always looked worse than it was, though, as there really was no appreciable loss of fluid in the PS reservoir. I did pick up a can of Pentosin CFH-11S (I think that's what it's called) power steering fluid from NAPA auto parts store and would occasionally add more PS fluid when necessary. The real fix would be to install new lines and fasteners...

Here the kit we have: The Pentosin fluid is below it.

Cool, but where does the leak actually come from? The hoses don't look cracked, from what I can see.

The clamps can lose their tension over time, the heat can soften the tubes a bit too. Mine was leaking too and I just cut the old clamp and installed a screw-on hose clamp. No more leaks.

Thanks Guys. I was actually wondering about the clamp, since it just seems to be leaking out right there. I'll be trying the screw clamp!

UPDATE:
3 hose clamps replaced with gear-drive clamps, leaks stopped! Thanks again.
