Springs that arent harsh?
Wanting to lower my R53 to get rid of some wheel gap.
Whats a good spring that wont ride like crap, and still looks good?

The lower the drop, the worse the ride. These cars have so little travel.
IMO there really aren't any good springs for the R53 anymore. Swifts are good but very firm and more of a track spring.

All depends on what you consider harsh and how your roads are.
Tried multiple brands myself... best ones for comfort and performance, TSW (but they aren't available right now). Next, Tein H Tech, but they are now discontinued and also unavailable. Most others will drop an inch or more and on bad roads or major bumps they will be harsh due to limited suspension travel (as mentioned) and the short wheel base of the car.
Coilovers are not the answer if COMFORT is what you're looking for.
NM Doesn't make R53 springs.
Swift ARE NOT comfortable on crappy roads. Anyone who tells you they are, give them one day of driving in my area and they will hate them.
Ridden on H&R's in another members car, my coilovers were more comfortable, and that isn't saying a lot.
Also if you're going to stay on stock shocks, the ONLY springs I would put on them is TSW's when they become available again (they should be sometime, not sure when), because HTechs will never be coming back.

Yes, you can order them, but they won't ship. I spoke to Way about them a couple weeks ago (Way owns TSW now) and he is still waiting on his new manufacturer.
If you don't know the backstory, there was a bad batch of the TSW V3's that came out so in the interest of quality control, Way switched manufacturers all together. They are reproducing the springs and making very slight improvements, he said he has some out on a car for testing, but he doesn't have a definite date for re release and because of that, he doesn't want to give people a date and not be able to stick to the timeframes.
That could have changed in the last couple weeks, but last I spoke to Way, he was going to make a thread when they were ready for re release... I know because I was trying forever to get a set and even finding them used is hard.

I agree, If you're going to lower your car, Its probably good to do so when you can afford to throw better shocks and struts in, like Koni's or Bili sports, that are designed for a lower car. Otherwise you will blow shocks and struts that are not designed for a ride height lower then stock.
If the op has a second gen, then yes def order tsws.
JCW springs might be a good balance between slight drop, comfort, and handling.
Coilovers should naturally have springs that match dampers but there are also non-coilovers that match springs with dampers - Koni and H&R come to mind.

. OP does have 1st Gen.
I too have the Swift/Koni sport kombi and am totally satisfied with the ride.
I would rate the roads in my area as fair and cannot complain about the ride.
What I notice is a much improved planted feel over stock but I do have H-sport comp, Vorshlag with excellent rubber.
I think its a matter of getting the whole package right. imo

I have eibach springs on stock shocks (upgrading shocks after attending to other mods) . When deciding to get springs, I wanted a good quality one, that offered a decent drop and it HAD to be comfortable as some roads in south africa are real harsh and I have speedhumps on my road as well as a few other roads on my daily commute. No shop or seller in S.Africa had any eibach or h&r or tein etc. So I got mine from the UK. I'm really pleased with it since its lower than what I thought it'd be (1 finger space between wheel and arch in rear and 2 at front). its also not harsh at all, plus I've ditched the runflats so it helps with the comfort.
