Can someone point me in the right direction for threads on educating me on Springs vs. Coilovers vs. Struts. I see that the coilovers have springs around them, so do the springs get eliminated or the coilover springs are in addition to the springs. I just had H-Sport springs installed on my MC and would like to know where to take it from there. Sorry I have invaded this thread - I have been looking for a long time and cannot find a clear definition. Suspensions are very confusing , but I must say I enjoy the difference new lowering spring produce on my MINI. Thanks in advance!

i'll explain what I know here and if I leave something out, hopefully someone can help out and input what I missed. Your springs on your car use a strut which hold them in place. Meaning that you currently have a strut and spring on your car assembled as one. With a coilover, it replaces the existing strut/spring in it's place. Coilovers are a nice advantage if you don't want to disassembly your stock strut/spring. You would simply jack the car, remove your wheels, remove the stock strut housing and replace with the coilovers of your choice. Hope this helps clear it up a little.

Coilovers also are matched so you know the spring and strut part of them will work properly together. Otherwise, you have to play around with dampening settings on the struts so they match well with the spring you use. Too little dampening and your spring will oscillate over a bump and you'll feel like your in a boat. Too much dampening and your spring won't be able to rebound quick enough over multiple bumps.

Here's our clearance: BF Goodrich KDW2 (215/45/17), Momo X1 17's, H-Sport: springs, front & rear sway bars, and adjustable rear control arms. Sorry, our rims are filthy.
