Ireland Engineering fixed camber plates gone bad

I think I blew out one of the bearing on my Ireland fixed plates getting that all to familiar strut bearing clunking. anyone know if you can replace just the bearing on the plate?

The bearing on my H-Sport camber plate started to clunk and I was able to clean and relube the bearing, while still mounted in the plate, to resolve the clunk without having to replace the bearing. I did remove the camber plate from the strut so I could move the bearing in all directions during the cleaning and lubing. The bearing was just frozen a little (did not move well) and that caused the clunk.

I just spoke with Lee at IE.

They take stock plates and modify them to fit on/in the adapter. Just get a stock or OEM bearing, take the IE apart, and with a griding wheel or bandsaw duplicate the trimming and bolt it in.

Any more questions just call him. *see link above

I don't hear anybody mention what they are using for lubeing the bearings.
Helix recommends using Anti Sieze compound.
Have used it on all sorts of things.
Really works.

I haven't contacted Ireland Engineering yet... but do you have any radial cracking in that 'rubber like' BMW bushing? Mine started cracking after 15 months and now at 27 months looks like they may fail.

I have been out of town for a couple weeks but now I'm getting back to my bearing-bushing radial cracks problem. I think these are BMW Z4 pieces that Ireland Engineering attaches to their fixed camber plate product.

In my case the IE fixed camber plates bearing-bushing had some cracks at 15 months with only 5366 miles. 68 of those miles were on a paved road course circuit, race track. I'm at 27 months and 9873 miles (total of 90 track miles) and they have severe radial cracks or tears. I'm using DOT tires and not run flats.

Anyone else having this problem besides 'donjulio'?

I am sending this to Ireland Engineering to see what they suggest.

The first photograph is of the right front strut top bearing-bushing with radial cracks or tears. Second photograph is the left front with bearing dust cap removed.

11 October 2011 Update. Jeff, Ireland Engineering, agreed that the condition of these upper strut bearings is abnormal and he is helping me get this corrected. I bought the product from Dustin at AutoXCooper and he has been very supportive as well. A big thanks to Jeff and Dustin.

Torn strut mount...

hey gang -

My '06 MCSc has 44k with original issued strut mounts, which I've always keep an eye on. After a recent 1000 mile trip, I discovered that the front right (passenger side) strut mount has a tear of ~1 inch... straight line from center outward.

With what seems like premature wear on the Ireland Engineering fixed plates, I was wondering if it was isolated. Besides the thicker plate, is the rubber mount any better than OEM???

Thanks!

PS: what is it with BMW/Mini bushings and strut mounts that last only 1/4 to 1/3 the time of other manufacturers?

I have my IE fixed camber plates and all is dandy except for one thing. I had bought the Craven strut tower defenders and when I was installing the larger lug adapters to the skinny strut tower mounts from the IE Camber Plate, I over torqued the lug and ended up poping off a stem from the IE Camber plate!!!!! Anyone know if this is an easy fix & what size stem I should get ? I get the impression that it could turn into an easy home depot fix from the looks of it but not 100% sure. Anyone ?

I recommend you contact IE and see if they send you a new stud bolt. The fastner isn't designed for a high tensile force. I believe the torque value with a new nut is only 25 lb-ft.
