Suspension VMAXX question!
VMAXX question!
I apologize if I'm posting in the wrong section of the forum, but I couldn't decide whether it would be a 1st gen or 2nd gen topic.
First of all, yes, I've used the search button! I couldn't find an answer to my specific question:
I read that 1st gen and 2nd gen suspension setups are different. But I've also read that VMAXX coilovers will work for both 1st and 2nd gen (Found a used set of VMAXX off a 2nd gen, wondering if it will work with my 1st gen). Will someone please confirm/clarify?
Thanks in advance everyone

no thats w H&R springs
heres where im at. the rims are in the sig. 205/45/17 stock tires.

And the 12 threads i mentioned are the strut shaft threads at the top, not the threads for the perches FYI. not sure where i set those exactly.

Looks great!!! I can't wait for mine. They should arrive this Friday!
hi, i just installed my vmaxx coilovers and im getting a clunking noise from the back coilovers! my coilovers did not come with coilover installation instructions so i reused the orange soft bushings that go on each side of the mount plate. im thinkin thats where the sounds coming from
any thoughts?
any thoughts?
I reused those as well. By tightening the top nut more it went away.
My understanding is that as the car hits a bump it actually compresses the stupid orange things more and thus the clunk is heard as the suspension drops back down.
IF you have them pretty tight (dont want to go breaking anything) then it could also easily be the strut shaft hitting the side of the hole in the top mounting plate (I think it fits rather loosely if i recall (been a while). Id reassemble with this in mind and get them really tight again so that the shaft doesn't move around and hit the side while in use....
All of this is attributed to the orange bushings I think.

Thanks so much, i took the coilover back out today, looked at the stock diagram, realized that i had the the top concaved washer upside down, put the vmaxx back together like the stock diagram in this order:
shock
spring
vmaxx top spring seat
stock orange bushing w/ metal cylindrical bushing inside
shock mount
top stock orange bushing
stock top washer(concave side facing up like it came off stock shock)
nut(tighteded nice and tight)
Put the shock back in and NO MORE NOISES!!!!!
I can honestly say i am very impressed with the ride of these shock now, i would rate them smoother than stock, i have all tires about 0.5 inchs from the wheel well height with no rubbing at all (i have 12mm spacers in front none in back(i recomend a 10 mm space for more lowering ability in front).
this process of removing the stock rear wheels, shocks, and installing the coilover and adjusting took a total of 1 hour for both sides.
i did not receive any instructions with mine so it was a guessing game with common sense
for those who are going to install these i have all perch adjusters set at 10 spaces between the threads from the top of the shock(reading from above the perch) and ever wheel is at a good height and pretty close to perfect.
i recommend a alignment after you find your perfect ride height and for this i also recommend some alta adjustable control arms.
im getting my alignment next week.
if anyone has any questions about thier install, i will be more than happy to answer them as this site has helped me a alot with my installs
as of right now i would say the vmaxx were a great buy!
Thanks again to "i wash my car" and NAM
