Comments about Mini Madness strut plates

I finally got around to installing my MM strut tower plates today. I had a question, but also wanted to add a comment. The passenger side of my car was starting to mushroom enough that it was hard to get the strut out and back on. The driver side went pretty smooth, until...

I snapped off one of the strut bolts. Here's where a little better instructions from MM would have been helpful. I wasn't exactly cranking on the bolt. Maybe a warning or some sort of torque value (even hand-tight) would have been helpful. I did get it back together, but it raised a question in my mind. Everything I've read says that these should flatten out your towers that are already deformed. I'm not seeing how that works. I know you can't torque down on the bolts to flatten out the sheet metal. How exactly does it flatten it? Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks

Hi;

Go to this thread covers just about everything on the strut tower 'mushroom' and weak strut top mount plates (and bushing cracking)

see the thread as mentioned above. Also using the bolts to hold strut mount bolts to pull down mushroom is not what I would recommend.

I'm about 1 week away from installing plates and I plan on trying to flatten the tower before installing. There is a good method out there.

https://www.northamericanmotoring.com...om-repair.html

I plan on using the 2 plates as the steel plate and since I don't have slugs I plan on cutting a 2x4 and drilling it then putting the large bolt thru. Also plan to put some bolts thru the 3 stock holes and use those to pull it down.

I prob post a DIY on it.
