I've had the racing dynamics one for awhile...it's really nice...carbon fiber, and you can still use your rear seats....also, surprisingly made for a big handling gain!....that one does look like it'll add quite a bit more rigidity tho.

Yea I have the Racing Dynamics one. I got it last year around this time. We'll see if I spring for this or not. I want the M7 front strut brace and their heat shield before I go with this.

i smell BS... at my last job consulting to most auto mfgs, we torque twisted a few car chassis... and noticed that with all cars, the rear brace didnt do squat. nor did underbody bracing, ties, front strut towers. maybe back in the day when car chassis design wasnt as sophisticated, it would have had some incremental improvement. but with a small wheel base car, and also being a hatchback, theres no way in hell that a straight bar across the rear struts will make any kind of difference, in both handling tests nor the twisting of a chassis.

however, the M7 design, since it is capping off the rear, might actually work to some minut degree. i wouldnt bank on it tho because of the fact that there are no benefits to that box design.... its need some kind of diagonal bracing (or better yet, an X) to cap off the chassis.

just my $0.02

QFT!! at least for the most part. the bottom part of the brace isnt going to offer any significant bracing. However, i think a front strut bar still may offer a good amount of bracing

Precisely. That's where the torque is.

Bracing Basics

I have to agree. Structural bracing relies in the inherent rigidity of the triangle. When a force pushes on it, the member is under compression and tries to bend. When a force pulls on it, the member is under tension as the force tries to stretch the member. A brace without diagonals relies in the strength of the connections/welds for rigidity. Unfortunately, the unbraced members act as levers - the longer the unbraced length, the greater the leverage trying to shear a bolt or cause a weld to fail. For a brace to be truly effective, it needs to incorporate diagonal supports so the members have something to brace against.

I might add it appears the M7 and the carbon fiber brace act as a strut brace, preventing the two towers from leaning in towards each other or splaying out, but cannot prevent racking of what is essentially a parallelogram shape. Perhaps the chassis is stout enough to resist any forces likely to be encountered, but I have no way of knowing that.
