Your units are screwed

ft-lb is a unit of torque. Springs are in force per distance. But the numbers seem funky too. 950 lbs per foot is really, really soft, and 950 lbs per inch is really, really, really hard! I think stock is around 180 lbs per inch or so.... That would be over 2000 lbs per foot!

Thanx for the knock in the head I needed... I have torque on the brain. For those spring rates, please replace "ft-lb" with "lb/in".

I'm looking for where I said that in this thread, and not seeing it. My comparison to the springs was in response to your first description of how it "quickly firms up after slight motion." But I'm sure you can talk over my head about suspension all day long. Next time I'll put the "imho" in my post in bold, red, and underlined, and add a caveat about how I'm only talking about MINIs as far as 99% of the ppl on this forum drive them and not quadruply adjustable "race car" suspensions.

My point was more that ride quality is subjective, and most people who just spent money on a new suspension set-up aren't going to come onto the forum and complain about a #$%*& ride.. As long as it's bearable for them.

I was responding to you comparing something used on racetracks to something that garners a high level of complaints...
ya, that 'firms-up' point was not meant to say it progressively varies & continues to firm-up the damping. It quickly takes a set [even if operating in soft mode on the street] then you really appreciate how they respond.

Let's not forget what you wrote, that I was replying to. I was directly addressing "better than stock" to both ride quality & responsiveness is a possibility. ... you just gotta pay to play. Those dampers are on a C43 now, but that can be changed... that very thread is all about how I'm debating if I should migrate them over to my MINI; no one here has experimented with different valvings tho it seems. There's one, two double adjustable options for MINI already I think, not the custom route I'm thinking of going. So at the end of the day, what I was meaning to say is if people re talking about a double adjustable damper, I can & would believe a "better than stock in all instance" statement.

possibly the RSR race team (koni da race struts) and Tony Nuzzo (motons?) and other folk who race. k-huevo has revalved bilstein sp's in the front to his liking with stock springs for the street.
