Madness poly engine bushings

i installed the mini madness poly engine mount bushings yesterday and took a lil spin. install took about 15 minutes no problems other than i didnt have a 16mm socket or wrench. i still got it done. funny my sockets and wrenchs both have 15mm and 17mm but no 16mm in the sets. anyway you can feel the shifts are better and the front feels like it has a lil more grip . it seems to feel like it has less of a clunk in the shifts from second to third. so i drove it up to the auto parts store to get some 16 mm sockets and a wrench and other stuff after i installed them. i have a big lake by my house on the way to the parts store and its got some nice hard curves . one turn says to take it about 15mph. i hit 52 or so. you can feel the extra grip coming out of that turn and the firmer shifts feel great to me. sitting at the stop light you can feel just a slight vibration but its not bad at all. you really probably would notice it if you didnt know to look for it. i would have to say i like it and the cost wasnt that much at all. im not a big time tuner and i dont work for madness in case you guys think im hawking a product for them. so thumbs up to madness and there poly mount bushings .

+1. After about a day, you will no longer notice the slight vibration but feel more connected to the drivetrain. The poly insert is very soft material. Shifting is better, moving from stop is smoother, and wheel hop is reduced.

Made a big difference on how the car shifts. It's not real jumpy during shifts anymore.

I did a little write up here http://www.snozeberry.com/?p=104

Honestly, I haven't noticed any at all. We'll see when it gets colder.

I'm interested in hearing more feedback in regards to the added NVH [noise vibration harshness] with these poly inserts added.

Does the steering wheel vibrate at all, either idling or going through the revs? Any other vibrations transmitted to the cabin, mirrors, or windows?

My concern is they are like the poly inserts I have in my R53, which vibrates at idle like it has solid metal mounts!

Thanks! The website is comming along... been lazy about it.

The vibrations to me isn't noticable at all. I'm in tune with my cars and know exactly what's going on. I figured for the price and ease of installation, if they didn't work out or I didn't like them, meh, it's not a big deal.

So... -there are no vibrations ? (if they aren't noticeable to you at all)
or -there are vibrations and you don't let them bother you ... ?

I read your write-up, I am looking at this part, but I'm painfully curious about the NVH effects ...

I have the lower engine bushings and like them. There is a slight vibration but not as bad as when I put a set on my R53. I pulled them off the R53 because it always felt like the engine was about to stall.
Vibration on the R56 is not as bad and will be keeping them on.

The transmission doesn't matter, the engine mounts are the same regardless of the transmission type.

I beleive that the reason most tool mfg's do not include the 16 mm wrench and sockets is that the american 5/8 is very close to the same size.
The 5/8=.625 and the 16mm (.0394 x 16) = .6304. They difference of .0054 is very minimal and will actually fit a bit tighter.
Steve

[quote=ENGINE 58;2243478]. funny my sockets and wrenchs both have 15mm and 17mm but no 16mm in the sets.

Ryan,

I put the Madness bushings in several months ago. Initially, I noted a slight vibration, but now I really don't feel anything at all. However, the decrease in engnie movement when taking up the clutch has made for improved control of starts and much surer shifting up and down on the track as well as on the street. I like them!

For all R56 owners, be aware that MINI changed the shape of the factory bushing at some point. My July 2007 build MCS has a round bushing and Madness has inserts for that as well. Take a look at what is on your car before you order to make sure you get the bushing inserts that fit your engine mount.

Thanks Paul for the insight, and the tip on the revised engine mount being out there. Once again you're an R56 pioneer

are there any solid mounts available for the R56? vibration is not a concern for me so i would actually buy solid mounts if they were available.
