Suspension Coilover Question
Coilover Question
My 08 MCS should be coming any day now and I was thinking of picking up the KW variant 2 and I read that you need to put at least a 5mm spacer for the fronts. I was wondering if all coilover setup with the stock wheels will need a spacer. I will be getting aftermarket wheels down the road but can't afford it just yet after spending over $31k for my MCS.
I was looking at the helix website and it mention if you are changing suspension they recommend getting the "strut tower defender" and the "rear shock bushing". Is this true? I don't mind spending the money if it is justified that I really need it. The last thing I want to do is waste more money for labor when I can do it all at once.
Thanks
Jeff

Thanks for the quick response. Do you recommend getting the rear bushing and the strut tower defender as well?
Our coilovers come with the rear bushing on them
The plate on the camber plate is quite thick, we have not seen mushrooming on the cars.
hey jan,
I met with jon k at his shop the other day and took a ride in his (very nice) mini. I was just curious what you run on your suspension as far as camber, shock stiffness for street/track and what size rear sway bar (he recommended I remove my 22 and go stock if i go with the cross setup. I trust jon and he REALLY knows what he's doing, I'm just curious what others are running.
By the way, I had the blue R56 at the streets of willow back in November, if you remember.

Sure I remember you Tim, afterall you had dinner with us
Jon said you stopped by and said to take care of you when you are ready.
Everyone of the R56s that we have done are running the stock sway bars and are really happy with them. I'm sure he told you why they set them up that way. You going to the track again soon?
I'll be at buttonwillow april 12th, I've been trying to make it out once a month but have to miss this one. I just missed you guys in february at the streets, I was there the day after you guys.
I'll probably pull the trigger on the coilovers in a month or so, I'll give you a ring when I'm ready!

what did you run last time out at SOW?
I have just had a set of Cross coilovers fitted to my R56 S and the improvement over SS is amazing, even with S spokes and runflats.
The ride is more compliant and always feels in control. The car doesn't jump across the road when encountering a broken road surface, a major and very welcome change in the handling.
Plus, if you buy from RMW as I did, Jan provides an excellent initial setup as a starting point for your individual adjustments - if any.
You will need some adjustable control arms for the rear if you want to retain stock camber settings.
My car is a road only car and looks much better without the SUV ride height, lol!
