I'll confess that after my experience, I didn't get a torque wrench for the strut tower nuts. I didn't want to buy an additional torque wrench for only this purpose. The shop replaced my strut mount plates and did the proper torquing. Since then, I've installed a tower brace myself and had it on and off a few times. I torque to a "firm" amount that feels secure but wouldn't stretch the threads, and use blue loctite.

I stand by my statement that it isn't safe to use the same torque wrench that you use for wheel lugs. My torque wrench from TireRack is marked for 10 to 150 ft-lbs, but I've since learned that torque wrenches can be very inaccurate near their upper and lower limits. I had it set at 25 ft-lbs and started torquing down each nut until the wrench clicked. It felt as though I was applying a lot more force than I expected, and I should have followed my instincts. When I got to the last nut, the wrench hadn't clicked yet and the bolt sheared off . The shop found that all of the other bolts had been stretched, and both of the strut mount plates had to be replaced.

If you feel that you need to use a torque wrench, one that tops out at 75 should be better than one that goes all the way to 150. For lower values, some torque wrenches measure in inch-lbs (instead of foot-lbs). 25 ft-lbs is 300 in-lbs.

Will this work as well? Or should I get the Craven Strut Tower Defenders? Hope nobody gets offended if I revived a somewhat old thread.
PS: are the torque requirements different for both items?

As you can see in the picture of the moss offering the plates contact briefly on only two spots. In order to receive any anti mushroom assistance you need to completely cover the surface as best as possible.

We offer this product for that application.

And you can add the cross brace at a later date if you wish .

So you keep an oxidizing accelerant inside the car - next to you. Do you think that's a good idea?

Not to be a spoil-sport, but have you ever seen what happens when a regulator comes off a pressurized bottle? How about the effect of a spark in an oxygen-rich environment? Here's a hint: http://img.scoop.co.nz/stories/image...eb4935128.jpeg

My brother worked for the OSI, which is the military equivilent of the FBI, as an investigator. Every year a list would circulate of all the stupid ways people killed themselves that year. One guy was refueling a rocket with LOX (liquid oxygen). After he finished he walked over to the designated smoking area to have a smoke. However, it was very cold that morning and some of the vapors had settled in the folds of his clothing. When he sparked his lighter, he went off like a hand grenade.

I'd hate to see you end up on that list. I work in the oil and gas industry. You might be surprised how many explosions and accidents occur each year in refineries and chemical plants as a result of vapor leaks. Most of the time they scrape up what's left with a stick and a spoon.

Interesting info and that would make a hell of a halloween costume. The truth is that when I did fill it , it was with NOS but its been a couple of years since I bothered . Now I just leave it in there to scare the Honda kids " Dude hes got NOS " is the usual comment. I used to drape a oxygen mask off it as a added prop but then that could open another whole can of worms .

N02 still dangerous inside a car

Glad to hear that. I assumed it was N02. Remember N02 is 36% oxygen (by mass) compared to 23% oxygen (by mass) in the air that we breathe. Putting an oxygen cylinder (100% 02) in one's car is a surefire way to earn a nomination for the Darwin Awards.

Go fast responsibly.
