Control Arm install problem

So anytime I take on a project that only included 2 bolts, all kinds of problems arise. Here's the deal. I went to install my adjustable control arms the other day and ran into a snag. It seems that the brakes lines hand down further than all the ones I've seen in the instructions I've read. When unscrewing the lower bolt, it hit the brake line. I don't want to bend it, so I'm guessing I will have to drop the calipers to make this work. Has anyone else run into this?
Thanks.

Here's basically what it looks like. Photo taken from Randy Webb's how to.

The rear caliper is only two bolts, though they are on there good! Make sure you undo the hexes and not the allens. I would just drop the caliper to avoid any possible issues.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Randy. Thats what I was planing to do. When I got to this it was around 3 in the morning, so I just put it off until another day/night. BTW, thanks for all the great how-to articles you've done. They are great and have really help me out on a few projects.

I have no idea why it happens. I can do full brake jobs, springs and struts, intake mods, aero grille mods, Joey mods, etc. But put something with 2 screws in front of me, and I get hosed every time. You should have seen me doing the engine dampener. 2 screws, 3 hours!!!

Didn't have any problem with clearance when installing mine. If you definitely can't get the bolt in/out without really pushing/bending the brake line, then drop the caliper, just to be safe.

Curiously, why? I've taken all four off a bunch of times and I've never had clearance problems... I'm not challenging your intellect, I'm really curious.

Mine also has the abnormal bend on one side, the first time, I loosened the parking brake adjustment via the nut under the p-brake boot, and disconnected the cable on the caliper to move the bend out of the way, the second time I altered the tube’s radius with no adverse effect, now it doesn’t get in the way anymore.

How did you alter the radius? I was going to bend it up a bit, but was a little scared I would mess something up. I'll probably just drop the caliper. I just put new pads and rotors on and they have a slight squeak, so I need to put some stuff behind the pads anyway.

Also, I'll be using Alta's V1 control arms. Anyone know about how far apart the joints should be to put me closer to spec? I'm dropped about an inch on H-sports.

If this is for me, I'm not sure why there is a clearance problem. But both sides look like the pic above. The metal part of the brake line just barley covers the bottom bolts. And don't worry, you would not be the first one to challenge my intellect. My wife does that every day!

Strut mount replacement, 25 min. Beltline blackout, 1.5 hours. 2 bolts, 4 hours, a trip to what-a-burger, many minutes of head scratching...

Saying "hey, we should just drop the caliper".......priceless..

This is why I usually work alone. No witnesses.
Remember, you still need springs installed MR.
