Project mini

Hi guys,

I'm in the planning phase of my mini project I'll be starting when I pick up my next year (waiting for the usb port option before I order). The only thing I have set in stone is that I'll be running a set of Moton Clubsports from Muellerized Inc and that the suspension will be tuned by John Mueller. It's up to me to pick up the other parts tickle my fancy before he works his magic. Which is why I'm posting some questions before I start dropping bills on parts. Just to clear up some things about the car ahead of time.

a. It's being set up to run canyons, not the track.
b. It's not a daily driver so ride quality is not an issue.
c. The back seats will be removed
d. It will have a full cage (rally america open class spec) to stiffen the chassis along with some seem welding
e. It won't be lowered

Ok, now for my questions

1. Is there a company that makes a complete set of replacement bushing for the car? I'm trying to avoid using spherical bearings as much as possible because of the crap required to run them in a street car.

2. Is the mini part of the bigger is better school thought when it comes to sway bars? I need to be able to adjust the car via throttle input while cornering.

3. Is there an aftermarket LSD for the R56?

4. What are the aftermarket suspension peices that everyone consider vital?

Crap to run sphericals in a car? Just do sphericals and billet bushings if you're going with motons. I'd suggest starting with things like camber plates and stuff. Powerflex makes R53 parts. Just do sphericals on everything though, if you're going through the expense of motons, do it right.. Just my $.02.

Sphericals required a lot of upkeep when compared to bushing. I'll be dealing with rain during the summer and road salt during the winter. If I left the car in SoCal year a around they would be an option, but I spend a lot of time I the northwest. Camber plates are going on the car with the motons (My bad for leaving that out). As for the motons being much of an expense, they aren't in my case. I rarely spend money on cars engine's. What people usually drop on HP, I throw into making my car handle the way I want. This my 4th project car (1st FWD), so believe me when I say I'm going to do it right. Does Powerflex make anything for the R56?

Not that I've seen... I wish they did. Considering the R56 and R53 rear are pretty much identical from what I've seen, you could use Powerflex back there, not so sure for the fronts. Are you getting camber plates made or purchasing? I've been looking for some.

I'm starting to research my options for camber plates to throw on the car, but I haven't found anything that is worth buying yet. From the looks of it I'm going to have to have a few parts made for the car. I'll probably end up letting the car be used as a test bed for parts so I can get company's to make what I need. The mini will also be running a set of super 1600 spec wheels from Speedline and a widebody that I'm going to have made to give it that JWRC look (and to avoid rubbing from the 18's). I'll be contacting Whiteline to see what the word is on a set of bushings for the R56. I've got a lot more research and planning to do before I pick the car up, but I've already got a few people that want jump on the project. So it looks like I won't have many issues getting what I want for it.
