Since you both seem to have some experience with great stance. In your opinion if I have a 07 MCS lowered with H&R 1.4 drop and I want to achieve a similar look to both your cars then have a couple questions. 1. if I have a setup with 17x8 et25 with 205/45/17 will I have a similar look just not as low? 2. Any clearance issues? 3. Do you think the natural camber would bring them in enough for minimal poke?

I have been told that I should have about a 5mm poke at stock height. My only concern is that I will have to much mexi poke!

All info is greatly appreciated I have done hours and hours of research and I'm just nervous to order the new wheels and have them not look right.

Thanks Again for any info!

07R56MINI,

I think you will be fine. I actually think 17x8 et25 is perfect for our cars. 20 offers too much poke and 30 offers too little. I only remember ever seen those ETs on a very lowered car, but I am sure you'll be fine with that size and offset with only a 1.4" drop. You won't have any clearance issues at all. You will have some natural camber in the rear, fronts will have significantly less but I believe your setup will look great.

Be sure to post some pictures.

Well thanks for the info but I called about the wheels that I was considering and they are on extreme backorder so I will be giving up on those. I guess its time to start searching again..........

Hello everyone,

I'm sorry for interrupting an awesome thread..
I'm planning to go with NM spring/Bilstein sport suspension on my 13 Clubman S with 17x7.5 +40 wheel, 215/45/17.

The problem is that we occasionally go kayak fishing with my family and its going to be quite a load. 3 people, around 520lb with two kayaks (130lb). I've heard that nm spring owners rub their tires with heavy load but should I steer clear of lowering car if I'm going to put that much weight on my clubbie?

Maybe try finding stiffer springs than the NM's?

Jeramy, how low is your car, and how low was it when you were blowing through axles?

Umm, how would like me to measure it. Currently, its not super low, but it is low. I scrape the front a lot and manage to scrape my exhaust and subframe atleast once a day.

When I was breaking axles, I apparently had a bad transmission mount that noone diagnosed after 2 trans and 2X axles..

Questions for all y'all with NM springs and Koni sports. Im currently on the NM's and getting ready to add the Koni's in the next week or 2 (stock shocks currently). 1. What do you guys have the Koni's set at as far as adjustment of the rebound dial and
2. is the spring perch adjustable for the mini on the Koni's? I know on my prelude back in the day there were 3 different spring perch notches to raise or lower the car slightly. i was hoping maybe I could set the perch on the top notch of the strut to take out that slight vibration I get when excelerating.

As I recall I went 2 clicks from softest. I was even advised to leave them on the softest which is the way they are shipped, but I couldn't have that! No adjustment on spring perch that I've seen. Suspension is firm and I love it. Daily driver.

Just sell the springs and get coilovers and set them to a desired height.

If it's your daily driver, I would run them one or two clicks from the softest setting. Especially the rears, since you will have to pull them to adjust, which is what I ended up doing. I currently have mine set at one click from the softest on the rear, and right in the middle on the fronts. Mines a daily driver. The Koni's/Yellows are a great combo

That was good. Thank god for two cars though during all that.

By the time you buy a good strut/spring combo, you could have had a good coilover setup that has all the adjust ability built in.

Lol, i was worried you were going to take that the wrong way. Glad you took it in that manner.

I got my konis for $450, IE fixed plates for $175, and TSW springs for $175. I would be really, really concerned about the quality of coil overs that I would get for $800. If I bought all of these things retail, then I agree that for $1000 you should be able to get a single adjustable set of coil overs and have height adjustability. I felt comfortable running Koni yellows from a durability standpoint. I would have to research to see if there are reliable shocks at this price point. My MINI is a year round, 15k/year daily driver.

Its great that we can all make our own choices, based on what we think is right.

Have fun,
Mike

ST (KW made) Coils can be had for around 8-900, Megans 800-1k, BC's 1k.

These might not be the pricing most people can find but if you know the right people at each company you can get them quite reasonably.

And I have seen great used coils for a 4-800 on here. I have $2500 JIC-Cross coils and I paid $400 cause it needed a new pillow mount bearing ($35 from JIC) and seller wasnt sure they were serviceable (they are, JIC is local to me). I also got my KW V1s for $300 when I ran them then paid $150 for KW to reseal and refresh them.

Deals are out there just gotta look for them.

I drive 30-40k miles/year.

.02 - each their own.

I ran Megans (bought them new for around $900) on my old R53 for 4 years+; had no problems.

Its good to hear that there is some success with the lower priced coil overs. I made the assumption that I would be better off buying a good standard shock. Good to know.
